Islam does not Permit Suicide Bombings

Islam does not Permit Suicide Bombings
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

Religion based terrorism is perhaps the most dangerous phenomenon of Muslim history. Throughout Islamic history, that is, until very recently, action has always meant result-oriented action. But in modern times, for the first time, the Muslim mentality has become so distorted that, on occasion, fruitless action has also come to be considered desirable…..

Value of Human Dignity
Muhammad Ali Musofer

The intellectual dimension of human beings is constantly highlighted in Islamic teachings. The Holy Quran has reinforced the concept of human beings using their intellect and reflecting on the mysterious creations of God....  Therefore, in Islam seeking knowledge is viewed as abundantly good and it is obligatory for every Muslim to seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave....

Many of us know Imam Abu Hanifa as a teacher and a Faqih who used to narrate Hadith on behalf of the Prophet (peace be upon him). But if you wanted to buy silk in the city of Abu Hanifa, the best place to buy silk was his shop that he ran with his brother. So even though he was an Imam, he still had his business and he made this money to be sufficient. Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal once was asked: “If somebody has a 100,000 dinars can he be from the people of zuhd, can he be a pious person?....

Take Care of Your Heart

Take Care of Your Heart
Sadia Dehlvi

An important way of counterbalancing pride in one’s heart is to lower oneself to the very people s/he feels arrogance over, and to seek out tasks which help break one’s ego and increase humbleness. Physically serving others, especially the elderly and the poor, are actions that are humbling and a sure way of connecting with God. The best way to polish the heart and keep it free from rust is constant remembrance of God...

A list of do’s and don’ts would help the general readers about the simple but effective teachings of Islam. Before listing the do’s and don’ts let me remind the readers that a “do” will count to 10 and a “don’t” will count to 1. This means that a good deed will yield ten times the reward, but a bad deed will yield only one punishment.......

As most of us have come to realize, happiness is that ethereal quality that encompasses contentment and peacefulness; it is the soft joy that causes our lips, faces and hearts to smile. It is determined by faith in God and obedience to Him. Thus happiness embodies the peace security and submission that is Islam. The injunctions and regulations of Islam reinforce the happiness that comes from knowing God...

There is no radicalism in Islam, which commands to be moderate, temperate and compassionate, and prohibits extremism. In one verse Allah relates thus: “Say: ‘People of the Book! Do not go to extremes in your religion, asserting other than the truth, and do not follow the whims and desires of people who were misguided previously and have misguided many others, and are far from the right way’.”...

Sadia Dehlvi, a writer and Sufi activist read her paper on Sufism in Delhi. She said that she was proud to be a part of Delhi which was the centre of all the Sufi orders and most importantly the Dargah of Hadhrat Nizamuddin was located here. She appreciated the inclusive approach of the Sufis in an age when the ordinary and the downtrodden people did not get love and respect from the upper caste and the ruling elite. The Sufis and particularly Hadhrat Nizamuddin’s personality had become a rallying point for all the people irrespective of caste, creed or religion. She also said that it was a wonderful aspect of the Sufis that all the Sufis of India had formed a framework which connected the people from all religions and castes. .....

But during its golden age in the 15th and 16th centuries, Timbuktu was a renowned centre of Islamic and secular learning, research and scholarship. Timbuktu has long been called the city of 333 Sufi saints, as the people follow a tolerant version of Sufi theology. The recent militants tried to force their dogmatic version of the Sharia law, showing scant respect for the city's pluralistic religious traditions or its rich literary and architectural heritage. ...

All the Surahs quoted are to remind the rich and powerful (and ignorant) rulers and citizens to pay heed to what the Almighty has warned of in unambiguous terms. We have the example of Qarun, whom Allah punished for his arrogance and ingratitude for all the wealth with which he had been blessed (Surah Qasas 28:76-84). When requested to be grateful and give thanks to Allah, he replied: “All this has been given to me on account of a certain knowledge that I have.”  There are more recent examples too – i.e., King Farouk, the Shah of Iran, Saddam Hussein, Hosni Mubarak, Qaddafi, Marcos, etc...

For those who wish to connect with God, the need to describe Him with certain names is essential. It is not possible to worship that which is completely unknown. The knowledge of Asma ul Husna allows us to become acquainted with God, for it sheds light on the relationship between Allah and the world. Be it wrath or mercy, Allah reveals Himself to us through His names....

The moment a man opens his eyes to this world, he encounters a great order surrounding him. If he needs oxygen to survive, the atmosphere provides more than just the adequate amount of oxygen he needs; and thus he breathes without difficulty. If heat is essential for the existence of life on this planet, the sun is located at just the right distance to emit the exact amount of heat and energy human life requires….

The concept of God in Islam describes Him as the most merciful and the most loving and whatever He prescribes for humankind is in their best interest. Total submission to the will of Almighty God is a pathway to purity, peace and ultimately Paradise. The word the Quran most frequently uses to describe the act of worship is Ibadah. Ibadah is the root of the word ‘Ubudiyyah, which means to express one’s humility or humbleness.....

The importance of holy Surah like Al-Asr lies in the fact that it delineates the perfect all-embracing system of human life just as the Creator of mankind desires. Throughout all human history, everywhere and at all times, there has been only one system and way that guarantee happiness and prosperity to all mankind in this present world and the world to come. All other systems and ways have all been conducive to loss, wretchedness and perdition....

Lowliness and servitude before the Almighty are attributes the Prophet of Islam adorned. Lowliness before God is a spiritual stage which the Prophet and the sufi saints after him preferred in order the reach the glorious Lord. Hazrat Abdul Quader Jilani (God's mercy be upon him) narrates in his book of discourse, Al-Fat Al Rabbani, that one day a man came to the Prophet and said: "O Messenger, I love you." The prophet answered: "Be prepared to wear the garment of poverty."...

Each set of believers in a particular religious or secular belief-system insists on the supremacy of its unverifiable beliefs. And this, quite naturally, sets different sets of believers against each other. In other words, antagonistic differences between different sets of believers are rooted in the very fact of belief. Belief in rival ultimate truth-claims thus produces, underlies and continually reinforces divisions between different sets of believers....

Islamic Ethos Underlines Character Building With The Best Of Manners

Islamic Ethos Underlines Character Building With The Best Of Manners
Arman Neyazi, New Age Islam

The modern Muslim family is in conflict with two sections of Islamic ideology. While one advocates the moderate ways in keeping with the changing times, the other, the fundamentalist section claims that Islam cannot be compromised in order to adjust to the modern times. But Islam neither supports vulgarity, nudity, night club culture or mixing up of men and women in public nor is it synonymous with big beards, abhorrence to science and English or ‘pyjamas above the knuckle’. Therefore, Islam endorses a balanced approach to the world and religion and permits Muslims to adjust to the modern times through ijithad (progressive thinking).

Remember Allah and Be at Peace

In my view, world will have to revert back to its old culture and custom of remembering Allah on every occasion, auspicious or whatever. There are Ninety-nine holy names of Allah, all having different effects and cure to different ills. One holy name or all the holy names together are enough to get His attention to get His mercy; His closeness as it is, His mercy and closeness can ward off all the evils and worries, despair or depression....

The Dhikr, before being a simple "mention", is the divine, articulated Word which is conveyed through the channel of the calamus. These are Divine Words or seeds contained in the divine Consciousness. It has, therefore, an eminently fecund power, whether it is articulated by God Himself according to an Islamic perspective, or whether it is formulated by the human being. It is a divine characteristic, an attribute related to Allah in His Oneness. It expresses the generative powers of the masculine active Principle (dhakar = male) which interpenetrates universal Manifestation, the Womb or Matrix of all the forms of the Universe or the feminine principle (unthā = female), by ordering it through the action of the seeds of wisdom and love. With its executive power, the Dhikr, the sharp and illuminating fine point, assails the darkness of the human constitution which is not yet harmonised and revivifies it with its uterine seed.

Allah speaks of this in the following way in His Holy Scripture, "He is no other than a Dhikr for the sign-beings [the worlds/creatures] (in Huwa illa Dhikrun li l-'ālamīn)"(Q..38:87). "We sent down the Dhikr and We shall certainly preserve it." (Q. 15:9) One can also observe the complementarity of the two principles in the following verse: "O human beings! We have created you from a male (dhakar) and a female (unthā) (Q.49:13)." The Divine Words thus spoken by the divine, impregnating Dhikr and conveyed by the divine Calamus, are brought to life by the All-Radiating Breath of Love (nafas al-Rahmān). This expression derives from the following hadīth of the Prophet: "I feel the Breath of the All-Radiating Love coming from the Yemen [or: from the Right]." …

The Revolution of Karbala and its Global Impact
Ghulam Rasool, New Age Islam

The spirit and revolution of Karbala require from us a pure heart, sincere soul and truth-seeking mind to understand its universal message and global impact. If we take a deep insight into this great revolution, we will see it unique and distinct from all historical revolts of the world. Throughout the history, there has never been a leader who predicted about his own death before even setting a foot in the march. But Imam Husain, quite willingly, goes on treading the path to his sacrifice and takes every necessary step towards achieving it. He says addressing to the people at Mecca: “O people, even if my body be cut into pieces by spears and wolves between Al-Nawawees and Karbala, there is no question of the day, which was already written. Pleasing God is our aim, we the family of the Prophet (pbuh)”….

Intercession: Indispensible Way to Reach God
Arman Neyazi, New Age Islam

And if, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you, [O Muhammad], and asked forgiveness of Allah and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Accepting of repentance and Merciful. (4:64) This is a direct Divine order to seek intercession of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and this verse is Mutlaq (not restricted to any time). None of the classical commentators of Qur'an said that it only applied to the Zahiri Hayat (Physical life) of Prophet (pbuh)….

Setting aside any restraints of logic, this angry mob of Muslims in Pakistan seems to have failed at learning the lessons of Ramadan. The very observance of which teaches one to look inward by reflecting on patience, perseverance, forgiveness, understanding, mercy, compassion and kindness. It is a shame that at the very end of such a holy month....

Yes, now it is the 65th year of independence. It is time for some maturity in thinking. The generation in charge of the affairs in all fields is now of post-independence birth. People in the age bracket of 40-60 are the ones in the mainstream national activity. Whether in the private or government sector, the major portion of activity is in the hands of this age group. Some influence is exerted by the higher age persons, and by the youth.

Every living thing in this world has some basic characteristics, which distinguish it from others. This is as true of individuals as of groups of people and their religions and philosophers. It is, therefore, appropriate that we try to find out the distinctive characteristics of Islam and acquire correct knowledge about it....

Righteousness Is Key To Islamic Teachings
By Dr Syed Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri

Islam targets developing of a righteous human being so as to qualify him with worthiness of being the vicegerent of Allah, the Creator, on the earth — the highest adornment of honour with which Allah graced the human being. Human being was created in the best form and to him was subjugated all that is in the universe; angels were made to prostate to him in respect;....
