Muslims and Islamophobia

‘Anti-Muslimism’ and ‘Islamophobia’ have much to do with the views, attitudes and behavior of significant numbers of Muslims themselves, who are themselves a major cause for ‘anti-Muslimism’ and ‘Islamophobia’ across the world today. This is something that those Muslims who readily accuse the rest of the world as being inherently and congenitally ‘Islamophobic’ do not seem to, or choose not to, recognize. ...

Neo-Orientalist Islamophobia Is Maligning the Reputation of the Prophet Muhammad like Never Before
Munawar A. Anees

Saudi Arabia and Iran are playing the most dangerous game: both countries are exploiting sectarian tendencies and trying to achieve their strategic objectives through proxies here and there. Interestingly, most of the Arab states feel more comfortable with the militants’ forces, as compared to the Islamists. It’s an easy choice for Muslim rulers, who want to maintain the status quo, as the militants demand only resources while the Islamists want regime change.....

Lies and Distortions Main Weapons of Islamophobes
Mohammed Azhar Ali Khan

When it comes to maligning Islam or Muslims, hatemongers don’t let accuracy, fairness or truth get in their way. So a Point de Bascule attack on me also targeted several Muslim organizations. Bascule accuses it, falsely, of “supporting political activities involving the promotion of Shariah in Canada.” Islamophobes love to frighten people with the bogey of Shariah. It is idiotic to say that a minority can think of imposing Shariah on a non-Muslim majority even if they wanted to, which they don’t....

Saudi Arabia’s ‘Islamophobia’
Kunwar Khuldune Shahid

The Saudi phobia of Shia Islam is inherent to the kingdom’s domestic and foreign policy to a point where the “Jews of Israel”, which according to Saudi’s Islam should never “be taken as friends”, become a natural ally vis-à-vis Iran. The anti-Shia militancy in Pakistan and throughout the Middle East is fuelled by Saudi petrodollars. The on-going Saudi-led intervention in Yemen that has killed hundreds of Muslims and left thousands displaced is a corollary of the Saudi fear of a Shiite government undoing the status of Yemen as a Saudi satellite state....

Destruction Of Islamic Cultural Heritage: Muslims Must Reclaim The Spiritual Values Of Islam, Sultan Shahin Tells A Public Dialogue During UN Human Rights Council’s 22nd Session At Geneva

Islamophobia is an extreme phenomenon; it is not part of European or western heritage and it does not reflect the general attitude of the society. It only represents individual attitudes — hostile feelings that can be eliminated if they are countered with logic and a peaceful approach. The same may apply to the terrorist movements that reflect extreme beliefs and attitudes that do not represent the real Islamic principles….

Islamophobic Hate Speech Goes Unchecked In the West
Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor

My concern rests with the unwillingness of predominantly Muslim countries, particularly in the Arab World, to send a clear message to countries that give a platform to those who make a living out of attacking my beloved faith, Islam, that doing so is unacceptable. As for the imbeciles, whose mission in life is to draw offensive cartoons of the Prophet, despite knowing full well that depictions of the Prophet Mohamed are strictly forbidden in Islam, they are merely beneath my contempt....

Islamophobia on the Rise
Linda S. Heard

There were no laws banning the veil or barring the construction of minarets. There were no newspapers or magazines running disrespectful cartoon contests. Muslim graves weren’t vandalized and mosques weren’t firebombed as so many have been in France and Sweden. There were no “Burn a Quran” days. No anti-Islamic posters plastered on the sides of New York buses and heavily armed right-wing thugs didn’t congregate outside mosques to hurl insults at worshipers as occurred in Phoenix, Arizona last Friday....

Islamophobia in Arizona
Khaled A Beydoun

They were on-site to preserve the free speech rights of the anti-Muslim action, and ‘protect both parties’. Seemingly everybody in front of the mosque carried a gun, except the Muslims. However, despite this fact, it is the unarmed Muslim bodies that are largely regarded as ‘threats’ and ‘terrorists’....

It's often said that anti-Semitism continues to exist in Poland even in the absence of a large Jewish community. The recent Polish film Aftermath, about a farmer who uncovers the terrible truth about his village's treatment of its Jewish community during World War II, makes that point vividly and tragically. The same can be said about Islamophobia. It too has taken root in countries in East-Central Europe where the Muslim populations are miniscule, like Poland and the Czech Republic. Anti-Islamic sentiment has also flourished in areas further south where the spread of the Ottoman Empire left sizable Muslim communities in Albania, former Yugoslavia and Bulgaria…

ISIS, or something very much like it, was always waiting to reemerge out of the chaos. Before ISIS, there were the Wahhabi armies of the Ikhwan which did most of the same things as ISIS. The British bombed them to pieces in the 1920s and the remainder became the Saudi Arabian National Guard. The insistence on democratic institutions weakened the military juntas holding back Islamist insurgencies. Islamists took power across the region. Where they couldn’t win elections, they went to war. But whether they won on the battlefield or the ballot box, violence and instability followed them....

Every person and institution that claims to represent Islam and each American of any religion who tries to materialize peaceful co-existence has to find ways to deal with the discourse of hatred. By cooperating with the groups that work on civil rights and groups trying to prevent hatred, making Muslim friends and neighbors and initiating anti-Islamophobia campaigns, it should be shown that Islamophobia is not fear of Islam, hatred and prejudice of Islam....

Pamela Geller and the Anti Intellectual Revolution
Inas Younis, New Age Islam

If you want to know who is financing Ms. Geller and other Islamophobes, it stands to reason that the one who is most likely to benefit from their activities is the guilty party. But clearly the ones benefitting the most from Pamela Geller’s anti Muslim vitriol, provocations, and attack campaigns are Muslim extremists. The more public displays of hatred against Muslims she orchestrates the more ammunition she gives ISIS types to justify their actions and reinforce their racist narratives....

Noam Chomsky versus Sam Harris: Rationale versus hate
Taha Najeeb Khan

However, let it be clear: to recognise that there are profiteers in the Islamophobia industry is not to deny that Islamic reform is very much a necessity. The punishment for apostasy and blasphemy in many Muslim countries is death. One need not be a libertarian to recognise what is wrong with this....

Homophobia in Pakistan
Zeeba T Hashmi

Families are hardly ever around to support them and refuse to accept that their children are born with a different orientation. There have also been Fatwas issued by several clerics against homosexuals. There have been incidents of how gays have been brutally murdered with clubs and stones for their sexual preference....

Poison, The Pen, Political Correctness and Islamophobia
Michael Curtis

In the case of Charlie Hebdo, those circumstances requiring limitation of free speech did not exist. Satire, even if xenophobic, does not call for revenge of any kind. The real reason for the withdrawal of the six writers was not so much that the cartoon were vulgar and did not deserve an award, or that the magazine was an example of French cultural arrogance, but that they disagreed with the political position of the magazine, accusing it of racist and Islamophobic provocations....

Terrorism and West’s Islamophobia
Muhammad Ali Zoaib

The West is asking several questions about Madrasas in many Islamic countries and some of these questions are valid. What does it mean? No Modern Scientific as well as Religious Education for Muslims?  Then where the Muslim students in poor Islamic countries should go for education....

A recent essay in The Atlantic caused a stir by suggesting - contrary to constant pleas by Muslims - that in fact ISIS was not only Islamic, but very much so. Given its constant references to and reliance on the Quran and other Islamic texts, author Graeme Wood suggests, groups like ISIS are the most authentic representation of Islam: they are its true bearers, and those denying such a plain fact have a "cotton-candy view of their own religion." It is certainly not the first time we hear such arguments made by those who wish to demonstrate a causal link between Islam and terror....

The American Muslim condition is paradoxical. Muslims in the U.S. live in the best of circumstances and the worst of times. Most tend to be mainstream, moderate and middle class. They are educated and are well integrated into American society. In fact, they are seen as a model for European countries to emulate. But American Muslims also live in a socio-political climate in which Islamophobia is steadily on the rise.....

However, as many Kosovars are now Muslims, their country is not as free as they are led to believe. Over the past few years they have seen how their community, their imams and political leaders are demonized and even imprisoned when they chose to express their opinions in public....

Islamophobic Extremists – A Real Threat to World Peace

“As Muslims, we don’t support violent acts around the world — ISIS isn’t Islamic, regular Muslims don’t have these views,” he said. “That’s been a focus of this Islamic Awareness Month, trying to tackle that issue of violence, and the fact that when we’re doing religious acts, they’re not radical acts....

How Can Muslims Deal With Islamophobia?!
Samar Fatany

There is no such thing as “political Islam”. There is Islam and there is politics. Muslims stand united with the West in condemning terrorists, speaking out against injustices and criticizing corrupt leaders; however, they will not stand for humiliation of their faith and identity....

At present, Islamists and their apologists use this single term to shut down reform of Islam by labelling critics of (and within) the faith with the same neologism used to describe bigoted thugs....

Islamophobia is back again in British politics. More frequent attacks on mosques and gradual, growing support for far-right groups reminds us that anti-Muslim feeling is on the increase....
