Why Do Some Men Rape?
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

Why Do Some Men Rape?
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

Importantly, the rapist needs this emotional support too. They have a long and painful childhood from which they need a great deal of help to recover. It is this healing that will enable them to accurately identify the perpetrators of the violence they suffered and about whom they have so many suppressed (and now projected) feelings which need to be felt and safely expressed. You need a lot of empathy and the capacity to listen to address violence in this context meaningfully and effectively. You also need it to raise compassionate and powerful children in the first place.....

Why We Believe Obvious Untruths
Philip Fernbach and Steven Sloman

This is especially true of divisive political issues. Your mind cannot master and retain sufficiently detailed knowledge about many of them. You must rely on your community. But if you are not aware that you are piggybacking on the knowledge of others, it can lead to hubris....

Singularity of Truth Was Not Confined To Religions Alone
Harbans Mukhia

The notion of the absolute and therefore single Truth was inherited by Islam which announced that while partial truths had been revealed earlier through the agency of prophecy, Muhammad was the last in the line of prophets and therefore the single ultimate Truth was embedded in the Quran. Indeed, a synonym of God in Islam is the Truth (al-Haq). The slightest deviation from any word of the Quran was tantamount to Bida’t (heresy) and strictly unlawful. It also imbibed the concept of the Day of Judgment from Christianity and therefore the other attributes of the singularity of Truth and its inevitable triumph over falsehoods, termed Kufr, with the same meaning and intensity as infidelity....

The child said, “Oh King! This is what God does. He brings down the higher ones to the lower levels and uplifts the lower ones to higher levels.”  The king, fully satisfied with the answers, bowed down at the feet of his new guru who enlightened him with the secrets of God. He realised that God exists everywhere in the universe but to see him we need to still our mind, shift focus ....

Nonviolent Action: Why and How it Works

Nonviolent Action: Why and How it Works
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

At the end of the Salt March in 1930 Gandhi picked up a handful of salt on the beach at Dandi. This was the signal for Indians everywhere to start collecting their own salt in violation of British law. In subsequent campaigns Gandhi called for Indians to boycott British cloth and make their own Khadi (hand-woven cloth). These actions were strategically focused because they undermined the profitability of British colonialism in India and nurtured Indian self-reliance....

Why We Need Spiritually Minded Entrepreneurs
Khuram Malik

But before I knew it, I had written 16 chapters and had enough content for a whole book. I just kept writing and writing. The more I researched this subject, the more I realised just how conducive Entrepreneurship to Islam really is. Thus, I presented every argument I could find as to why Entrepreneurship is the ideal career choice for the mu’min and then de-constructed and countered as many objections as I could as to why someone – as a Muslim – might not choose this as a suitable career path....

Thinking In Stories: Problem Of A Fundamentalist Reading
Tabish Khair

In recent years, the Right has managed to tell us stories that, for various reasons, seem more convincing to many: inevitable state-aided neo-liberalism, for instance. Narendra Modi’s victory in India, Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s in Turkey, and Donald Trump’s in the U.S. — all three are driven by powerful narratives that explain the ‘past’ and promise a ‘future.’...

What’s My Value?
Abu Umaymah, New Age Islam

Allah Ta’ala has created every person beautiful, unique and precious. Often, this value is neither recognized nor appreciated by the person himself or herself or by society. Society determines a person’s worth according to its own preconceived values and standards. This opinion of people generally determines how an individual perceives himself or herself....

Joy Of Serving The Unserved
Moin Qazi

When once asked to express in one word the guiding principle of happy life, Confucius replied, “It is altruism.” And what is altruism in its essence? It is a total orientation away from selfishness and towards the good of others, to the sharing of joys and sorrows of the whole world….

For me, the pictures of a white Jesus with straight hair and blue eyes, the Jesus that most people are familiar with, was not always revered and worshipped. Furthermore, I believe that theology is just as much political as it is spiritual. What we think as “always was” is in fact as a struggle that impacted both the Islamic and Christian worlds....

The Joy of Giving Surpasses the Happiness of Receiving
Sant Rajinder Singhji

‘Then,” concluded the stranger, “is this not an inn in which one person enters and another leaves?” With this statement, the stranger disappeared. This exchange initiated Abou Ben Adhem on his search for God, as he realised that the things of this world were transitory and that what was more important to him was finding his soul and God....

Religion is often employed in the process as an added justification to recruit the ignorant others in the evil causes. Barbarism is also a religion of a sort. Yet many a sages and apostles have recognised all these evil traits and particularly the above. “How much shall we give?” asked the people of one past nation? “All that is beyond your need” was the reply of the Apostle. Morality and ethics was supposed to determine the proportions....

Follow Islamic Teachings in Quran and Prophet Mohammad’s Sunnat to Establish Peace and Stop Terrorism, Says Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community
Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad

“We tell the world that Islamic teaching is the solution to the problems of the world. For that, we present the Quranic education. During my visit to Canada, a journalist asked what solution for the current problems do we present. I told him, "You worldly people and big global powers, in their own selves, have exhausted your efforts to solve problems, establish peace and stop terrorism. Problems are still there where they were. If it subsides at one place, the fire erupts at another place. You try to bring that under control, and the disturbances start at the first place. All the materialistic ways have been used up to stop these upheavals. There is only one way that has not yet been tried. And that is the solution in the light of the Islamic teaching."…..

Staying Positive in the Midst of Turmoil

I realized that our inner states attract outer events to our lives. I understood that how you feel within impacts your outer experience. After God awakened my heart to this truth, I began to work on feeling inner peace and joy within....

Life on Earth is Dying

Life on Earth is Dying
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

As you read all this, you might say 'Not me'! But you are wrong. You don't have to be an impoverished African driven to killing elephants for their tusks so that you can survive yourself. You don't have to be a farmer who is destroying the soil with synthetic poisons. You don't have to be a soldier who kills and destroys or a person who works for a corporation that, one way to another, forces peasants off their land....

The Ways of the Walis
Roshan Shah, New Age Islam

It’s a remarkable sight! There are Muslims there, doing their Namaz and Zikr, and Hindus, taking the name of Hari and doing Bhajan-Kirtan, singing devotional songs—all of them in the same large space! Huge amounts of khichadi—made of rice, Daal and vegetables—...

A Lesson in Daily Charity
Roshan Shah, New Age Islam

He spoke lovingly about his master, a Sufi of the Qadri order, who had left the world a while ago. I thought I saw his eyes brimming with tears. He talked about truth being found in every religion. He also spoke of how faith must go along with good deeds. And then—not in order to show off but to demonstrate the point...

Seeking the True Path
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

Seeking the True Path
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

Is there a way out? Yes, but it requires you to feel your fear, anger, sadness and other feelings at what has happened to you until you are powerful enough to reject both/all ‘bad’ options and to refuse the trinkets that parody ‘good’. And to ask ‘What do I want?’ It is only by consciously and deliberately rejecting all ‘lesser evil’ options that the magnificent array of incredible opportunities which you have never contemplated/discovered will open before you to choose as you wish....

The ‘Trumps’ Of the World
Nawar Fakhry Ezzi

Peace and development occur when we believe in the goodness of human nature and try to understand it and appreciate it with all its diverse forms and backgrounds by seeking knowledge and initiating dialogue with the “other”, which can lead to the understanding and the acceptance necessary for harmonious coexistence....

Life Isn’t for ‘Time Pass’
Roshan Shah, New Age Islam

Life Isn’t for ‘Time Pass’

We can also, if we so choose, not care at all about the purpose of why God created us and can spend our short spell of time on this planet simply doing ‘time pass’—in which case, we are bound, sooner or later, to meet with frustration and despair....

We can’t go back. The old model of state churches is dead or dying everywhere today. But something must replace it soon, or we may find that the French novelist André Malraux was right when he predicted that this century would be religious – or it would not be at all...

The Period of Youth
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan for New Age Islam

The Period of Youth
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan New Age Islam

Young age is a very precious part of our lives. At this stage of life, we have much to give to others. It can also become something to be very grateful for if we spend this period of our life in the right way....

Passing the Exam of Life
Roshan Shah, New Age Islam

Passing the Exam of Life

Despite the different explanations that various religions offer about what happens to us after death, they are unanimous in stressing that we survive our physical death and that our state after death will be determined by how we had performed in the life-long ‘exam’ while on earth...

Punishment is Violent and Counterproductive
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

Punishment is Violent and Counterproductive
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

Perhaps the central problem of terrorizing individuals into obedience of conventions, commands, rules and the law is that once the individual has been so terrorized, it is virtually impossible for them to change their behaviour because they are now terrified of doing so. If the obedient behaviours were functional in the circumstances then, apart from the obviously enormous damage suffered by the individual, there would be no other adverse social or environmental consequences....

A Nonviolent Strategy to End the Climate Catastrophe
Robert J. Burrowes, New Age Islam

Another problem, if you understand anything about human psychology and political organization, is that mobilizing people in large numbers to act strategically and powerfully is not easy. Of course, if it wasn't so difficult, this crisis would not have arisen in the first place. We would have responded intelligently and strategically decades ago as some aware individuals, starting with Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi 100 years ago, suggested.....
