The article about me is based on misunderstanding. I had never claimed of being Imam Mehdi (A.S.). I have, as per Hadith, strived to explain the advent of Mehdi (A.S.). Such people perhaps do not understand the difference between claim and explanation, although both are totally different things. No doubt scholars have a right to give their academic views about the advent of Mehdi (A.S.), but no one has a right to claim to be Imam Mehdi (A.S.). Only an irresponsible person can claim to be the Mehdi (A.S.). A responsible and educated person can never claim anything like this. Mehdi (A.S.) is a divine person with cosmic powers. In such circumstances any claim of being Mehdi (A.S.) will be equivalent to entering into Allah’s domain. --Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

A former admirer of Maulana Wahidudun Khan explains reasons behind his separation with the Maulana.

It may be mentioned here for your kind information that an article of Maulana Wahiduddin Khan entitiled’ Qayamat ka Alarm’ was published last year in May, 2010 edition of Al-Risala. This article was sent to me by email to know my views on it but when I went through this article I felt for the first time that I am not reading Maulana’s article but of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiyani’s writings. In this issue Maulana, distorting the Hadith has tried to prove himself as Masih Mouood and Mehdi Mouood. So, I talked to his special assistant Maulana Zaukan Nadvi and suggested not to publish this article but they refused my sincere advise and in a hurry published the article in the said issue.-- Maulana Ghulam Nabi Kashafi

There is a reference of Dabbatul Arda as a sign of resurrection in holy Quran which says a little before the dooms day that an animal will appear with the power of conversation with human being and will declare the presence of God. Mualana Wahiduddin Khan in Al-Risala of May 2011 declares the meaning of Dabbatul Arda as the last Daee, meaning the person who will speak in a logical language. Whereas in the issue of June 2007 he had describe the meaning of Dabbatul Arda as the modern day multimedia, which is hilarious, whereas prior to this also he had taken the meaning of Dabbatul Arda as an animal in Tazkirul Quran with a note that the thing people did not accept said by a human Daee, will be declared an animal. --Zeeshan Ahmad Misbahi

The question is as to why did Anna team contacted only Muslim religious leaders to garner the Muslim masses support. Does it believe that Muslim religious leader and institutions only represent the Muslims? Is it because Muslims vote at the behest of the religious leaders only? If Muslim leaders were selected on this basis, it is against the basic principle of democracy. Moreover, by doing this team Anna has abused the Muslim intellectuality which is engaged in creative works of various fields. Education, health, governance, trade, industry, science and entertainment are the areas where millions of Muslims are contributing in the development of the country and society. They have institutions, the press and forums also, but team Anan did not notice it. It is very sad. --Asghar Wajahat (translated from Hindi to Urdu by Samiur Rahman, NewAgeIslam.com)

The most important point which has emerged from Anna Hazare’s campaign, for Muslims, is that they also need a Gandhi in their community. We too should utilise the Gandhian weapon of satyagrah [peaceful civil resistance]. No one among the Muslims is able to do what Gandhi did 65 years ago and Anna after 65 years of independence. Muslim’s movements today, if any, get mired into violence under nefarious designs of politicians for some individual’s personal benefit and innocent Muslims have to face the consequences. Even otherwise the system of Jihad which Islam has taught is based on ‘Jihad e Nafs’ (killing of one’s own ego) and ‘Jihad bil Lesan’ (debate and discussion) and much after that comes ‘Jihad bis saif’(fighting with sword). Keeping a month’s fast during Ramadan is has also been declared ‘Wajib’. -- Urdu Daily Sahafat DesK (Translated by Arman Neyazi, NewAgeIslam.com)

Quran: Protector of Multicultural Society
Sohail Arshad, NewAgeIslam.com

Quran prohibits disgracing other religions and their gods. The Quran advocates multicultural society where believers of all other religions live in peaceful co-existence. Today the Muslim community and especially where they are in majority have risen in to violent groups, in the name of religion and establishment of the rule of Allah on earth. They are involved in suicide bombing. -- Sohail Arshad, NewAgeIslam.com

Who is responsible for the bias and narrow-mindedness in the society? If they talk of beheading their opponents on petty issues, who has given them the training? The limitation of the media that they can raise only a few issues can be understood but at least they can refrain from making provocative statements for cheap popularity and adopt a soft stand. They should set a standard of their newspapers that instead of provoking the sentiments of anger and grief, they express their opinions with seriousness. If this has not been the tradition with the Urdu media, it is time to adopt it now so that Urdu media too can become a part of the civilised and cultured society and provide cure to its  ills.--Dr.Ghazala Afaque Quazi

Senior journalist Zafar Agha explains the significance of freedom in the context of the current situation in neighbouring Pakistan. He says: “Thanks be to almighty God, that we Muslims too have the same right to vote as our Hindu brethren and it is this right that has made us independent. We are free, to elect our sarpanch, also we are free to change our prime minister. There is no doubt that there are shortcomings in the democratic system but we breathe in the free environment of India and enjoy all democratic rights. It’s important to remember that this right is not available to Muslims in other parts of the world.

To the millions of Muslim Americans across the United States and more — the more than one billion Muslims around the world, Ramadan is a time of reflection and a time of devotion. It’s an occasion to join with family and friends in celebration of a faith known for its diversity and a commitment to justice and the dignity of all human beings. So to you and your families, Ramadan Kareem. -- US President Barack Obama during Iftar Dinner

The book begins with ‘bismillah ir Rahman Ir Rahim’ (to begin in the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the most merciful) which mentions the benevolence and mercy of God. And the very first verse of the first chapter declares God the ‘God of the entire universe’. The word ‘rab’ (God) denotes endless affection and love and by saying ‘the God of the entire universe’ the whole world was bound together in relation of brotherhood giving the concept of such cosmopolitanism where all the humanity is considered a family. In short, the holy Quran is the flag bearer of peace, human brotherhood and universality. -- Mufti Mohd. Zahid Qamarul Qasmi (English Translation from Urdu by New Age Islam Edit Desk available at:

Although presented in the usual xenophobic and sectarian style of the Urdu Press, the following article tells us how much Mahatma Gandhi and other Indian luminaries respected Maulana Mohammad Ali’s beautiful translation of the Holy Quran, even though any write-up by an Ahmadi scholar is anathema to our illiterate ulema (religious scholars) who are incapable of appreciating anything worthwhile beyond their microscopic vision. Incidentally, Maulana Mohammad Ali is also famous for his excellent exposition of the tenets of our religion in his book “The Religion of Islam”. This book is far more relevant in our times than it was even when it was written. Maulana Mohammad Ali was a contemporary of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad and considered him a Mujaddid (renewer) of Islam rather than a non-law-bearing prophet as many Ahmadis do.  But our so-called ulema do not have the ability to recognize even that distinction. Any appreciation for Mirza Ghulam Ahmad’s brilliant exposition of Islamic tenets is considered blasphemy. New Age Islam posts articles of different points of view for free debate and discussion. In principle, no article should be taken as an endorsement of a point of view. -- Editor

The recitation of the Quran, Geeta and Bible every morning was a part of Gandhiji’s daily routine. Every day, he studied Muhammad Ali Ahmadi’s English translation of the Quran. It is a matter of research as to who advised him to read Muhammad Ali Ahmadi’s Quran because Muhammad Ali Ahmadi was the greatest flag bearer of Qadianism in the subcontinent who promoted Qadianism with his venomous English writings despite the fact that the English translations of Mohammad Marmaduke Pickthall (1930), Abdullah Yusuf (1934) and Maulana Abdul Majid Daryabadi (1941) had already been published. Notwithstanding this, Gandhiji read only the Quran translated by Muhammad Ali Ahmadi. As a result, the English Quran of Md Ali Ahmadi got wide publicity. --- Athar Siddiquee

The world today is on the path of progress but madrasas are on the decline although increasing day by day in number. What is the reason that now madrasas are not producing scholars, scientists and researchers of high standard? During the last centuries they produced many such people who served the world in a way which cannot be forgotten. World will always be indebted to them. Some of them are: Ibn Biljabr (father of Algebra), Ibn Sena (father of Medicine), Jaabir bin Hayaan (father of Chemistry), Khildoon (father of Sociology and Political Science), Al Quasimul Jebarbi (father of Surgery), Ibn Nafisi (father of Blood Pressure) and Ahmad Memar (architect) who had designed Taj Mahal. These are the people who took their education in madrasas and reached to the top in different spheres in the world.

The basic reason of this pathetic situation is not imparting worldly education to the students. One cannot be a guide to the nation or the society unless one has a variety of worldly knowledge. Hazrat Ali (KW) has said: “Teach your children according to the needs of their time not of yours as they have been borne for the coming days.” Prophet Muhammad (SAW) says: “Studying is a duty for every Muslim man and woman. And Prophet (pbuh) further says, “Study, even if you have to travel to China”. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has not asked for any particular course of study, be it worldly or religious. He has not kept any one particular knowledge above the other. It is a different matter that there is something which one should learn first. When a question of “priority of knowledge” was asked to Imam Jaffer Sadique (RA), he said, “No knowledge is above another knowledge but the knowledge one has to take advantage of should be given priority. And in today’s world one should take advantage of two subjects, knowledge of medicine and knowledge of Deen. (Supermen in Islam) -- Syed Nawab Ali Saryawi. How to celebrate Independence Day? It was Lal Masjid and Jamia Hifsa bathed in blood, yesterday. Soil of the grave of deceased hasn’t dried yet. We celebrate Independence Day. Minarets of Lal Masjid are quiet and people are depressed, and yet you can’t see the tears? These minarets look at us strangely. Bruised with bullets and bathed in blood and fire, the soul of the Lal Masjid is crying. Innocent boys, who were offering namaz, became victims of the blast. -- Samiullah Malik

Despite numerous efforts for justice in Gujarat and Bihar, it still seems a distant dream for Muslims of these states to achieve fair decision. Both the government’s machinery is trying to put Muslims at bay from getting justice. According to reports SIT had given copy of report to the Modi Govt., so that they can manage to escape from clutches of law, similar attempt is also going on in Bihar where govt. machinery is trying to shield the accused of Forbesganj firing incident. Columnist Abid Anwar explains the nexus between investigating body and accused in the establishment.-- Abid Anwar

The Title of Swamy’s article is “How to end Islamic Terrorism?” This headline in itself is wrong as there is nothing like ‘Islamic Terrorism’. This terminology has been invented with nefarious designs in mind. There can be ‘Terrorism’ but there is no place for ‘Islamic Terrorism’ as there is no place for terrorism in Islam. This does not need any clarification as it is being written and talked about for long now. He has further written, ‘there are at least forty terror attacks in India every month out of which some are reported and some are not’ but Swamy has not given any proof of it. If there is any truth in it, it is the Muslims who are targeted and fall prey to these, as the attacks in which Hindu terrorists are involved are not reported at all.-- Suhail Anjum

Both the Israel and the US are badly affected by the Arab spring.  They are seeking to turn these revolutions in their favour. America and Israel are cooperating with Saudi Arabia the most in an effort to achieve their objectives in other Arab countries. Syrians being affected was natural. In Syria too people agitated in different cities and pressurised the government for political reforms. In the beginning President Bashar al-Assad accepted the public demands to some extent and promised to sympathetically look into them. But in a very short span of time the situation started taking a turn for the worse as some armed anti nationals started taking the agitation in their own hands. The role of Saudi anti-social elements also came to light. – An Editorial in an Urdu Daily

Vastanvi is different from the other past or present custodians of Darul. He is less doctrinaire in his thinking and is considerably more socially engaged, qualities badly needed to bring about reforms in one of the world's most influential and conservative madrasas. What exactly do the Madanis have against Vastanvi? ...

Most students, when contacted, were confident that Vastanvi would be able to make the new syllabus more meaningful and useful for students, something that the Madanis had never thought of doing. Shakil Khan of New Age Islam Website stated that the ouster of Vastanvi exposes “the moral and intellectual bankruptcy“ of his critics and that the Madanis thrive on political machinations and a culture of factionalism no matter what damage all this does to the common Muslim.-- Firoz Bakht Mohammed in Hindustan Times (Translated from English by Sami ur Rahman, NewAgeIslam.com)

God ordered jilbab (a long and loose-fit coat or garment worn by Arab women) and we turned that into Burqa (a tent like veil concealing the entire personality of a woman including her face). I am not ready to take ‘face’ and ‘hands’ in the category of ‘satr’ (private parts) but for the fear of the society or our men, women are deprived of the Shariah order of keeping their faces open. Although they know that during the Haj where there are lakhs of people it is necessary to keep their faces open. Till the time they had their faces open they were in a position to  reproach even a highly illustrious Caliph like Hazrat Umar (RA). Narrators write the woman who had upbraided the Caliph had a flattened nose.-- Dr. Kausar Fatima

In this 1500 pages manifesto Breivik says how he wished to start a war against multiculturalism which beginning from his terror activities would take the form of a world war. Weapons of mass destruction would also be used in it. After the war a ‘Servant Class’ based on the non-Muslims of Bangladesh, Pakistan and India will be formed who will work 12 hours a day during their stay in Europe and will live in different residential localities outside every big city. Their period of contract will be of six to twelve months duration after which they will be sent back to their nations.-- Suhail Haleem

Fortunately our freedom fighters were men and women with the vision of giants, not rats, and firmly rejected the move to declare India a Muslim state with reasons that have withstood the test of time. Unlike Pakistan, that embraced Islam as a state religion, and saw successive rulers like Zia-ul-Haq remove the markers between religion and terrorism. I am not a Muslim or a Muslim but an Indian, Dr Swamy. And this nationalist fervour of yours has such a jingoistic, ugly touch to it that it can only burn what it comes into contact with. The people of India are standing up to the terrorists by remaining united, by refusing to succumb to the kind of fires you and your ilk are stoking, and by raising a united —- and not a Muslim or a Muslim — voice against terrorism in all its forms. You are not required, and voices like yours have to perish if India is to remain a sovereign, secular, democratic republic.—Seema Mustafa

Fanatic Muslims consider Hindu dominated India as "an unfinished chapter of Islamic conquests". I may be recalled that all other countries conquered by Islam became 100% converted to Islam within two decades of the Islamic invasion. India is the exception. Undivided India in 1947 was 75% Hindu even after 800 years of brutal Islamic rule. That is jarring for the Islamic fanatics. Fanatic Muslim attacks have been carried out to target and demoralise the Hindus, to make Hindus yield that which they should not, with the aim of undermining and ultimately to dismantle the Hindu foundation of India. This is the unfinished war of 1,000 years which Osama bin Laden talks about. In fact, the earliest terror tactics in India were deployed in Bengal 1946 by Suhrawady and Jinnah to terrorise Hindus to give in on the demand for Pakistan. The Congress party claiming to represent the Hindus capitulated, and handed 25 per cent of India on a platter to Mohammed Ali Jinnah. Now they want the remaining 75 per cent. -- Dr. Subramaniam Swamy

It is the responsibility of the courts how they interpret the blasphemy laws. And it is the responsibility of the government, as well as parliament, to take notice of laws that allow impunity for such murderous bigotry and initiate a process that dismantles the architecture of these man-made laws. But it is also the responsibility of citizens, especially those who profit the most from Pakistan, to stand up again such attacks on its existential premise. In any civilised country, where the identity of the state was so contested that no one could face the wrath of the self-appointed gatekeepers of Islam, the educated elite would be forced to make common cause with the activist left to put its weight behind reform of laws they all condemn as unjust behind closed doors. -- Sherry Rahman (Translated from English by: Md. Syedna Hazrat Ghaus e Aazam Shaikh Abdul Quadir Jeelani (RA), in “Ghit ul Talebeen” has christened the night falling between 14th and 15th of Sha’abaan (name of the month) as “Shab e Quadr”. Hazrat says that noble and God fearing people are forgiven and blessed, and the wretched ones are deprived of His kindness and grace during this night. -- Ustad ul Ulema Hazrat Peer Mohammad Afzal Quadri (MZ)(Photo: A Boy Praying to God)

Anathema as this may be to fundamentalists, it’s won Shahin many followers. In the mere two years since the inception of newageislam.com, the website has 117,000 registered subscribers.... Its daily newsletter, brought out by a skeletal staff of five, has carried debates on issues and personalities seldom talked about among mosque-going, visibly pious Muslims. So the Mumbai-based Muslim televangelist Dr Zakir Naik is slammed, not because he is allegedly funded by the petro-rich Saudi Sheikhs, but because he tries to establish the supremacy of Islam over all other religions. Niyaz Fatehpuri, a 20th-century Indian scholar and editor of Urdu periodical Nigaar, has become a much admired man on the website because of his rational, ingenious interpretation of Islamic principles. The website even follows the Urdu press, including Urdu dailies in Pakistan, and uploads the rational views in it, both in their original Urdu and English translations. -- Mohammad Wajihuddin, The Times of India, Mumbai in an interview with Mr Sultan Shahin, Editor, NewAgeIslam.com (Photo: Mr. Sultan Shahin, Editor, NewAgeIslam.com) Translated from English by: Samiur Rahman, NewAgeIslam.com
