Is the Quran a Book of Contradictions?
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

Most definitely, the Quran is not a flat text. The Quran creates a tension and maintains it to steer people to the right path. At the same time, it makes allowances for the frailties of man and the door to mercy and forgiveness is kept open……

On The Reconstruction Of Religious Thought (Part 2), The Power Of Conceptual Frameworks
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

If the framework fully captures the divine plan, it will prove to be robust and will always provide the right answers to questions and prevent misinterpretations. If it imperfectly matches the divine plan, it will throw up anomaliesor contradictions which can be used to refine the framework or discard it as unreliable. The framework provides a hitherto unmatched power to further explore the Quran and mine for answers to complex questions faced and can be used by anyone. The framework replaces the defective frameworks and axioms of the past which considered every non-Mulsim as “Kafir”….

    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

I believe, using the framework of the spiritual and temporal dimensions to understand the verses of the Quran, greatly changes the way we perceive and receive the Message. Using this device, we see a completely different Universe from what we are accustomed to seeing. I am convinced this is how our Maker wanted us to understand His Word…..

    Spiritual Islam Vs Bigoted Islam
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

By no stretch of imagination can we say that a solitary witness is always a liar and neither does the Quran call them a liar. It calls them a Fasiq or a person given to wickedness. The lesson to derive from this is that an individual who is concerned about the “sins” of others is driven by wickedness or by a hate for others rather than love. He is driven by feelings of revenge and retaliation rather than forgiveness. He takes gleeful pleasure in catching others in the wrong rather than overlooking faults…..

Action Points for Defeating the Extremist Ideology
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

The extremist ideology is not very much different from the current state of the defective Islamic theology of all sects. The extremists are only extreme in their actions and it is not without justification that the Islamophobes call them more Muslim than the “moderates”. It is therefore impossible for the moderates to defeat the extremists ideologically, without accepting and correcting their defective theology…..

The Story of the Prophetic Mission of Muhammad (pbuh) in the Qu’ran (Concluding Part) Summary
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

Carefully consider the 12 translators who apparently think that the Prophet was fighting against “disbelief”. It includes scholars of every sect and some of them are major influencers such as Thanvi, Tahir ul Qadri and Raza Khan Barelvi. If according to them the Prophet was fighting against “disbelief”, then how can they or their followers refute the ideology of the “Jihadists”?  And how do they reconcile 2:256 “Let there be no compulsion in religion” and 109:6 “To you (peaceful Kafir) be your way and to me mine” with what they think the Prophet was fighting against? The fact is that the Prophet and Quran are far above what these people attribute to the Quran and the Prophet (pbuh)…..

The stories of prophets oft repeated in the Quran during the first 13 years of the Meccan period are the stories of Noah, Lut, Moses, Hud, Salih, and Shoaib (pbut).  What is common in each of these oft repeated stories is that those who actively opposed the Prophets and tried to harm them and their followers or were intransigent rejecters of the Message were utterly destroyed by an act of God....

    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

Muhammad (pbuh) was the last of the Prophets and the Quran is the last among the revealed scriptures. The Quran narrates the stories of several of the important Messengers individually and the story of the rest collectively in the form of parables. The last Message or the Quran is also cumulative in that it confirms what came before and is built on the previous experience of the Messengers and the People....

What Does It Mean To Be A Literalist And A Fundamentalist?
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

A literalist and fundamentalist understanding of the Quran requires getting to the meaning of the verses and not interpreting. As has been shown in all my articles including those cited in this article, a literalist and fundamentalist understanding also means shutting out the noise from all secondary sources and relying only on a holistic understanding of the message of the Quran.....

Who is a Muslim in the Quran?

Who is a Muslim in the Quran?
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

There is a definition of Kafir that the Quran applies to the pagan Arabs who are described in the Quran as a people “whose fathers had received no admonition, and who therefore remain heedless (of the Signs of Allah)”. This is a secular definition and applies to all mankind. The absence of the characteristics of Kufr in this secular definition is an excellent starting point to begin to understand the most basic requirement for anyone to be considered not a Kafir by secular standards. A Muslim should satisfy this basic requirement that was applied by the Quran to the pagan Arabs or else be considered a Kafir. After establishing this benchmark, we can further explore what it takes to be a Muslim. …..

Who Is A Kafir In The Quran? (Part 1): 'Kafir,' 'Mushrik' and 'Idolater' are not synonyms
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

To summarize, the Quran does not identify kafir by his/her belief system or faith but by certain specific characteristics that make the person an active enemy of Religion, God and the people of faith. A kafir is one who actively hinders people from practicing their faith, persecutes people of faith, opposes humanitarian practices such as giving of charity, shunning usury etc. A kafir could be a Muslim, Jew, Christian, polytheist, atheist and the term is faith neutral.

An important corollary of my comment/article below, is that:

The Kafaru among the Christians, Jews and Pagans that the Quran refers to, are necessarily the Kafaru of the Prophet's times.

Since the Quran does not identify the kafaru by their faith or belief systems, none of these verses apply to any of the people today.

The proof that I have provided for this conclusion, is as strong as any proof in the sciences.

The Art and Science of Interpreting the Quran: How the Verses Relating To Sex with Female Slaves Must Be Interpreted?
    Naseer Ahmad New Age Islam

That the Quran is not a book of poetry. Poets use key words in such a fashion that the word can take all or several of its many meanings and yet the verse remains intelligible or the same word is used in a single verse with different meanings. This is a characteristic of poetry. The Quran makes it clear that it is not a book of poetry and therefore it uses words to make the meaning clear and not to confuse or allow different interpretations. The key takeaway here is that one should not interpret the Quran as one would interpret poetry and debate about the different meanings that its verse can take but should take the simple and straightforward meaning communicated by it and as consistent with the rest of the Book…..

Is There A Rational Basis For The Atheists To Oppose Religion?
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

These strata of highly educated Muslim society and its intelligentsia should have become the leaders of the Muslim masses but because of their alienation from Islam, they have distanced themselves from the people. Religion as a Civilizing Influence
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

Let us now look at the civilizing influence of religion. We are all familiar with moral and ethical precepts that come from religion such as, the virtues of striving in the face of odds, of patience and perseverance, of abstinence and piety, of forgiveness in place of revenge, of returning good for evil, of observing limits in behaviour, the virtues of hard work, honesty, sharing, sacrifice and gratitude, the virtue of faithfulness and propriety and of justice.....

    Pakistan blasphemes Islam
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

Pakistan’s laws on blasphemy are demonstrably unjust, unislamic and violate the letter and spirit of the Quran and without precedent from the life of the Prophet or as the law was practiced for over the first 1,000 years of Islamic history. The law promotes acts of terror on the minorities, and the practice of the law leaves no room for doubt that these laws seek to legalize acts of terrorism against the minorities. The case of the hapless 11 year old Rimsha Masih underscores the depth to which Pakistan society has descended. Pakistan blasphemes Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) (who was sent as a mercy to all nations) by their barbaric laws of blasphemy and the practice which leaves no room for doubt about the intention. It is incumbent on the Muslim citizens of Pakistan to wage jehad on the infidels who defame Islam with acts of terrorism on the minorities and against the State which enact laws that blaspheme Islam and bring disrepute to Islam and its Prophet (PBUH).

Islam and Kant’s Principle of Morality
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

Kant’s philosophy of supreme morality is considered to be the highest and also the most difficult to understand. We have seen above that Islam’s principles are consistent with it. As a matter of fact, Kant’s philosophy of supreme morality is Islam without divinity. The absence of divinity is what makes Kant’s philosophy difficult. People can easily comprehend utilitarianism but for what reason should they follow a philosophy which is higher than utilitarianism? The concept of the categorical imperative therefore makes little rational sense without divinity....

The Law of Al Taqiya in Islam
    Naseer Ahmed, New Age Islam

Muslim scholars, in their books of Fiqh have further clarified that Taqiya is permitted only under conditions of coercion where the coerced apprehends that the coercer is both capable of carrying out the threat and also most likely to do so, and the threat is to his life or limb.

The standard of morality for Muslims is very high:

    • A Muslim is not permitted to lie even against those who lie against them

    • A Muslim is not allowed to fornicate with the women of another who fornicated with his women.

    • A Muslim is not allowed to kill by burning even in retaliation.

The simple principle applied is that whatever is prohibited remains prohibited and is not permissible even in retaliation. For more details, use the link below. ...

Why have Fatwas against Islamist Terrorism failed as A Counter-Terrorism Tool, Explains Sultan Shahin in a Conference in Birmingham, And Suggests the Kind of Fatwa Required

Numerous fatwas (edicts) have been issued by ulema (Islamic scholars) across the globe, particularly since 9/11 in a bid to stem the tide of Islamist terrorism. Tens of thousands of ulema have endorsed these fatwas issued by influential institutions of Islamic learning of all sects in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh as well as other parts of the world. When issued, these fatwas inspired great expectations. As perceptive and insightful an observer as Mr. Ziauddin Sardar proclaimed “the beginning of the end of the war of terror” when a hundred thousand Deobandi ulema endorsed a fatwa issued by the hundred-year-old Islamic madrasa in Deoband, India, “unequivocally denouncing terrorism,” in June 2008. Similarly, Sufism-oriented Barailwis, hard-line Salafis, Ahl-e-Hadeesis, have all denounced Islamist terrorism in their separate or joint statements. But terrorist ideology continues to attract our youth, particularly in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. What used to be merely a Pakistan-sponsored secessionist struggle is showing signs of tuning into an Islamist struggle for the establishment of Islamic Sharia through a universal Caliphate, very much redolent of the objectives of the so-called Islamic State or ISIS.  Popularizing the slogan of “Shariatya Shahadat,” a militant leader Zakir Musa, Burhan Wani’s successor, even threatened to kill Hurriyat leaders for calling Kashmir’s separatist movement political and not religious. Calling them “hypocrites, infidels, followers of evil”, the militant had warned to chop off their heads to be hanged in Lal Chowk in Srinagar, “if they create hurdles in the path of making Kashmir an Islamic State”....
