रमज़ान के महीने के लिए खास तैयार होने वाले विशेष इस्लामी कार्यक्रम सहरी और इफ़्तार के वक्त प्रसारित किये जाते हैं। वैसे तो माहे रमज़ान की विशेष प्रसारण के इस्लामी कार्यक्रमों के लिए विभिन्न इस्लामी विद्वानों की सेवाएं ली जाती थीं लेकिन लगभग सभी टीवी चैनलों ने ये कार्यक्रम अश्लील फिल्मों में नग्न और अर्द्ध नग्न हो कर काम करने वाली अभिनेत्रियों और डान्सरों के हवाले कर दिए हैं। इस बार जब भी कोई पाकिस्तानी सहरी या इफ़्तार के वक्त टीवी लगाएगा उसे नग्न फिल्मों में काम करने वाली इन अभिनेत्रियों का नज़ारा करना होगा। ऐसा क्यों हो रहा है?

Muslims in Pakistan and all over the world are ready for daily fasting and prayer, seeking to come closer to God and fellow human beings. It is a serious and joyful time. It is a time for reflection and also for good deeds. It is a time for sacrifice and for feast. And above all, it is a time to feel compassion with people who suffer, and perhaps make their burden a bit lighter by trying to understand their difficulties....

The militancy did not spare even its promoters. The US met 9/11. Pakistan has been facing suicide attacks and bomb blasts on a daily basis. The basic reason that makes militancy a choice for states and non-state organisations is to intimidate the opposition by using an inexpensive but terribly effective strategy....

THE report that a team of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances will visit Pakistan in September must have raised hopes in many a heart in Balochistan. Will this initiative give the efforts to resolve the issue of disappearances a decisive boost?...

Le débat autour de ces questions a intensifié davantage l’intolérance religieuse et la xénophobie auxquelles font maintenant face les minorités musulmanes dans certaines zones de l'Ouest.

 Je voudrais profiter de cette occasion pour recommander vivement à nos frères musulmans du monde entier de :

a) Déclarer autant que possible que l'Islam pacifique est le véritable Islam, l’Islam de l'opinion dominante. Dénoncer Osama bin Laden et Al-Qaeda et demander à nos Ulémas (érudits religieux) de déclarer ces agents de Satan personae non gratae dans l’Islam.

b) Rejeter ouvertement et de manière répétée l’idéologie jihadiste de la suprématie islamique comme c’est incompatible avec l’Islam. Le Saint Coran nous demande sans cesse de respecter tous les précédents prophètes de Dieu, tout les 124,000, autant que le Prophète Mohammad.

c) Arrêter de condamner tout l'Occident pour les provocations de certains partisans de droite qui ont un droit acquis à attiser la peur d’Islam, comme ils ont autrefois encouragé la peur de Catholicisme et de Judaïsme. Au lieu de cela, apprécier ceux qui font des efforts admirables pour lutter contre l’Islamophobie er maintenant même la Coranphobie.

d) Promouvoir le débat au sein de la communauté pour établir l'idéal coranique que le massacre d’une personne équivaut au massacre de toute l’humanité et que le soit disant jihad offensif propagé par certains Ulémas ne fait pas partie intégrante de l’Islam.

e) Répéter sans cesse le caractère contextuel des versets qui constituent le Saint Coran et que les instructions qui s'appliquaient il y a 1400 ans à une situation précise, ne sont plus pertinentes dans le contexte actuel comme des instructions de Dieu qu'il faudrait suivre.

f) Lutter contre notre propre mentalité de victime. Commencer à assumer la responsabilité de nos actes.

Like a mother who wants her children to live well, like a teacher who wants his students to do well, and like a chef who wants his patrons to enjoy his food…. God wants every one of his creation to live in harmony and do well. No one is deprived of God’s love; he has reached every human through a peace maker, messenger, prophet, reformer or simply a wise man or a good friend that brings sense to living....

Now, my proposal would to a large extent mitigate the effects of extra long daylight cycles and the harsh climate which would impact upon both the collective and individual productivity and well-being of the people. Again I would like to stress that this proposal should not be seen as a means of ‘coping out’ because even fasting in the month of September can certainly be demanding in a number of real-life contexts....

Once again, accountability will come to nothing because it is based on revenge and ill-will. Media anchors looking for ratings and not getting enough abusive juice from their talk shows accused Nawaz Sharif of 'friendly opposition'. They wanted war again, a pattern of voting based on hatred, and a revival of accountability under which the PPP chief Asif Ali Zardari had spent over a decade in jail without being definitively found guilty...

Enormously depressing in one way, the three books are also, oddly enough, hugely uplifting. Displaced, deprived, discriminated, dispossessed these voices might be - weary from trading home-grown despots for foreign ones and vice versa - but each one of them is determined to be heard. The note of defiance, of speaking out, of bearing witness rings sharp and clear....

 So, from Islamabad the Duffers took the party right to Chaman where, actually, the indirect beneficiaries of the NATO supply opening live. In a place like Chaman where there is a heavy presence of the Frontier Corps as well as the local government, not to mention the intelligence agencies, may one ask how was it that members of banned organisations that make up the DPC made it to Chaman? ….

It is unfortunate but true that more and more Muslims are getting detached from their own cultural moorings. This detachment and slow re-coupling with an Arab Islamic tradition is going to do immense harm to Muslims, especially those who are living in multicultural societies like in India. Gradually, this would lead to becoming estranged from our own surroundings and neighbourhoods which then leads to the development of negative stereotypes about other communities.

It is imperative for an Indian Muslim, not just to know about their rich historic specificity of living together, but also appreciate and participate in the lives of other communities. The process of slow Arabisation must therefore be arrested not only because it is politically necessary but also because of the simple fact that no community can lead a healthy life without a sense of rootedness. There is a need therefore for a context specific theology which is altogether lacking....
