The fact that Egypt has begun to defend its Christians is a positive move for the entire region; Egypt’s defence of Christians is a major blow to ISIS and its supporters. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi understands the importance of these recent actions and knows that he must stem the tide of ISIS before it takes a hold of Egypt....

Those Syrians who do find their way to the GCC states enter the web of the Kafala or sponsorship system, where the rights of the migrants are minimal. GCC countries prefer to provide funds to the UN and others so that the refugees remain outside their fortress. ‘Assad must go’ is an easier slogan for them to chant than ‘Syrian refugees are welcome here.’...

Most counter-terrorism policy pays little notice to converts and focuses on preventing extremism among immigrants—such as Donald Trump’s travel ban—or within established Muslim communities, like parts of Britain’s “Prevent” strategy. That may be short-sighted, and even counterproductive, argues Mr Neumann. Links to mainstream Islamic institutions could dissuade converts from falling into radicalism—and prevent its deadly consequences....

The deadly Brotherhood cult is responsible for almost a century of terror since the young Banna engaged in the intimidation and harassment of his Christian and moderate Muslim neighbours. Since then, the Brotherhood established Hamas as its Palestinian wing. Three Brotherhood activists established al-Qaeda. Brotherhood leaders, from inside their prisons founded al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya and Egyptian Islamic Jihad.....

The NIA is already working towards dismantling such groups. What we also need is for members of civil society to intervene and use their good offices to prevail upon such youngsters to refrain from becoming extremists. It isn’t and cannot be allowed to remain the sole responsibility of the state. Society must rise to meet the challenge.

I am an ‘Indian Muslim’ coming from a moderate practicing Muslim family. Brought up in Hindu neighbourhood, studied in a Christian Missionary school and have friends of various faiths and ideologies. During my childhood I used to burn crackers with my friends on Diwali, make Rangolis in neighbourhood. I still have many Hindu, Bengali and Christian friends dining with us on Eid, enjoying ‘Biryani’ and ‘Siwai’ more than I do. Putting ‘Bindi’ on my forehead fascinates me the most...

The bodies of four children, all under 10 years of age, were strewn around in the militant den in Nasirpur village in Moulvibazar. The bodies were so badly disintegrated that it was only after a crime scene unit went through the place, it was determined that there were two females, one male and four children there. Police believe that the three adults in that bungalow, who were suspected members of the New Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (New JMB) terrorist group, blew themselves up along with the children in the face of a raid....

About his mission to unite people who claimed to follow different faiths in common devotion to the One God, because of which many Hindus and Muslims came to accept him as a true man of God. About his teachings about the meaninglessness of narrowly-inscribed religious labels and identities that hinder one from realizing God.  About his critique of supremacism, bigotry, exclusivism, communalism, priest craft, caste and caste-based discrimination and superstition in the name of religion. About his insistence that mere rituals or belief in dogmas are utterly insufficient for salvation.....

Fatima al-Fihri migrated with her father Mohamed al-Fihri and sister Maram    from al-Kairouan (al-Qayrawan) in Tunisia, to Fez in Morocco. She was well versed in classical Islamic learning such as fiqh (jurisprudence) and Hadith (Islamic traditions based on Prophet’s life) Fatima inherited a large fortune from her father whom she used to build a mosque and university. Mariam, Fatima's sister, was the sponsor of the Al-Andalus mosque, also in Fes.....

The incriminating UN report concludes that Israel has established an apartheid regime that dominates the Palestinian people as a whole. Aware of the seriousness of this allegation, the authors of the report conclude that available evidence establishes beyond a reasonable doubt that Israel is guilty of policies and practices that constitute the crime of apartheid as legally defined in instruments of international law…..

Apart from the recent suicide attacks, the broad trend of decline in sectarian incidents has given some relief to locals. This has, however, come at the cost of a simultaneous increase in terrorist and militant activities from across the Afghan border. While the security situation has witnessed remarkable improvements, particularly after Army operations in North Waziristan, Orakzai and Kurram's adjacent areas of KP, the presence of TTP and IS on the abutting Afghan territory have created new threats for the Kurram Agency....

“America, you have drowned and there is no saviour; you have become prey for the soldiers of the caliphate in every part of the Earth; you are bankrupt, and the signs of your demise are evident to every eye,” the spokesman said, according to a translation by Reuters. “There is no more evidence than the fact that you are being run by an idiot who does not know what Syria or Iraq or Islam is.”....

The main protagonists of this fascinating piece of work are a terribly marginalised Piro—a low-caste Muslim prostitute in nineteenth-century Punjab—and her Guru Gulabdas, a cult-figure and preacher of syncretistic Bhakti variety. The main part of the story revolves around Piro’s struggles over her own life, body and thought in association with Gulabdas, for whom she abandoned her Muslim-ness, amidst violent opposition, and sought a new beginning in the devotional milieu at the Dera of the Guru....

While everybody agrees that immigration and Islam are major challenges, the mainstream parties have, on the whole, been unable to devise coherent answers. They contend that partition, civil war, or the replacement of the nation state by ethnic-religious communities (referred to as communautarisme) are absolute evils, and must be countered by a "restored" or "reconstructed" secular democracy. Many advise French Muslims to emulate the many compromises made by French Jews after 1789....

On the other hand, the imperialism and religious Mafia are both in hand and glove to create an all-omnipotent and invisible enemy. Spinoza was quick to realise it in the 16th century when he stated, “ignorance and superstitious beliefs spread like wildfires, and I believe that religious leaders feed that fire to secure their position. Religious authorities of all hue seek to impede the development of our rational facilities”....

Ayodhya Dispute
Syed Mansoor Agha , Tr. New Age Islam

After migration, the beloved prophet (peace be upon him) reached the city of Madina and aimed at building a mosque. The land he chose for the mosque belonged to two young orphans, and when they came to know that prophet (peace be upon him) was keen on acquiring their land in order to erect a Masjid; they offered the land to him as gift, but the prophet insisted on fixing cost of the land and finally bought it by paying more than the then prevailing price. The mosque was built. Hence we can imagine that Mir Baqi made a mistake while selecting the land of mosque on the hill of Ramkot in Ayodhya and did not take the precautionary measure that the beloved prophet (peace be upon him) exemplified.....

The reality is that it is often only in silence that we can truly think, that we can truly reflect and that we can truly be alive. This is why the best moments in our lives often leave us speechless, for nothing captures the splendour and wonder of our best times like silence. Silence reflects the serenity of the soul; one at peace with God, his people and surroundings. Silence is the trait of the humble, those who comprehend their frailties and limits, their ignorance and weakness, their death and life. In silence, the signs of God are made manifest on this earth....

What is very important, and is stuck out in your conversation, is that you are challenged that your understanding of Islam, and what you’ve come to understand as being standards that you admire as a human being, are not being met by Muslim standards either demonstrated in your family, extended family or community. But what I can encourage you to do is to become more familiar with the Islamic faith and its diverse of opinions – for it is never been a monolithic faith – and come to understand that one has an array of opinions from different schools of Islamic theological thought from which to choose to follow, or utilize Ijtihad (individual thinking) in assessing your particular situation…..
