The Urdu Daily editor's jibe at Mufti Ismail is for the wealth he made for himself when he was MLA from 2009 to 2014 and who is now preaching the virtues of honesty to his constituency after he lost the last election. Whether the politicians are Deobandi or Barelvi makes little difference. Power corrupts most of them and all of them end up piling up immense wealth. Anyone can stand upto a Mufti or Mullah. The editor stood up to a politician and suffered the consequences.

I'm happy to see someone stands up to these muftis and mullahs. No one would say that a PhD is necessarily also a moral and ethical person. The same has been true for the Muftis and Alims. They are human beings, nothing more. I hope the authorities will stand behind the editor. India should not allow any kind of extremism and fanaticism to flourish, be it Hindu, Muslim, or any other kind.

Mohammed Ismail is a politician today and like most politicians, corrupt. The Editor of Bedar has done the right thing by seeking his expulsion from The Majlis-e-Shura of Darul Uloom Deoband.
