Qur'an's Prescription for Preventing Terrorism and Violence

By Kaniz Fatma, New Age Islam

The Qur'an has taught us several ways to prevent terrorism and injustice. Three of these are of the utmost importance: (1) abstaining from the Fasad Fil Al-Ard’ (mischief or moral corruption against God and disturbance of the public peace in the land) (2) avoiding irrelevant issues and interference into the affairs of others, and (3) establishing justice and peace.

Commanding the Muslims to avoid the Fasad Fil Al-Ard’, Allah says in the Quran, “And do not obey the order of the transgressors, Who cause corruption in the land [Yufsiduna Fil Al-Ard’] and do not amend.” (26:151-152)

Another divine education for the people is that they should refrain from interfering in unrelated matters, as Almighty God says, “Say (O Prophet!) I have believed in what Allah has revealed of the Qur'an, and I have been commanded to do justice among you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you your deeds. There is no [need for] argument between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is the [final] destination.” (42:15)

Third, Muslims must keep struggling for promoting peace and justice, as God Almighty says, “O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is acquainted with what you do”. (5:8)

In the time of Hazrat Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him), one of his Emirs sent a complaint regarding the desertion of his city and demanded some money from Amir al-Muminin Hazrat Umar so as to resettle this deserted place. Hazrat ‘Umar Farooq wrote in reply, “After reading my letter, protect your city by establishing justice, fairness and removing oppression from the paths of the city because oppression results into desertion of the city”

It is true that “the country is not without army. The army is not without wealth. The wealth is not without cities. The city is not without people. And the people are not without justice”.

In the above mentioned passage, Hazrat ‘Umar commanded his governor to abstain from oppression and injustice in every situation otherwise the city would be destroyed. Due to lack of injustice the door of oppression opens up, people are forced to become criminals; therefore, justice ought to be established at all cost.  The history witnesses that whenever injustice was committed in the country and among nations, there appeared acts of violence and terrorism which caused massacre of a large number of human beings and destroyed houses of human families.

A proverb in English is very famous that “if you want peace, work for justice”

  • Do we not tolerate when you say 'unholy things' about the Holy book?

  • "india" does not grant any such thing.
a book called the "constitution of india" grants such a thing.
but books get re-written, re-published, banned, burnt and disowned.
it is abook after all. like the "holy" books full of unholy things.

  • India is a beautiful country. The only thing we need to develop in our sense is increase our own beauty of sight. How we take and see things is a matter. If we adopt tolerance, forgiveness and love in return for hate, that beauty of ours will develop. It is not an easy task for anyone but if we enlighten our hearts with love of Allah Almighty, our hearts become so soft that we easily and lovingly deal with issues of hate.

A very beautiful hadith makes me think of the rank of tolerance. It is narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurayra that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said that Allah Almighty said, “The son of Aadam has accused me of falsehood though it is not proper for him to do so. And he has reviled me though it is not proper for him to do so. As for his accusing me, it is his saying, “He (Allah) will nto resurrect me as He created me the first time” but creating him the first time was in no way easier for me than resurrecting him. As for his reviling me, it is his saying, “Allah has taken a son”, while I am the One, Alone, the Independent, the eternally besought. I beget not, nor was I begotten and there is none co-equal with me”

In the Quran, Allah Almighty says, “every soul will die and will be resurrected”. However those who deny this statement accuse Him of lying and in this way they also deny His attribute of being Al-Qadir (the All Powerful). It is simple that One who can create a being from a non-being can also resurrect him after his death. Here is the patience of God Almgihty that despite the fact that He hears accusation, he grants means of subsitence and forgives when one seeks repentence. As in another Hadith reported by Abu Musa al-Ashary it is mentioned that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “No one is more patient on hearing painful words than Allah the Exalted. The people attribute to Him a son, yet He gives them security and sustenance.” (Muttafaq alaihi- Bukhari and Muslim)

  • War tactics and rulings enshrined in Islamic teachings are meant for Islamic countries, for the safety and security of their people. India is a country which grants all rights necessary for its citizens as being Muslims and non-Muslims. It is then our mutual responsibility to increase our strength at all levels for the safety of our land.

Any Jihadist propaganda against our country is tantamount to attack our own country and people in which and with whom we live. So we should not let anyone use any propaganda against our soul of soil.

@Fatma, your writing deserves great appreciation from my side.
