The Prophet Mohammed from Western Eyes

By Sarwat Husain

February 15, 2013

The Prophet Mohammed was born on the 12th day of Rabi-Al-Awwal, this third month in the Islamic lunar calendar, more than 1,400 years ago.

He remains misunderstood in much of the Western world and, especially in the post-9/11 era, a target of ferocious attacks. To honor his birthday, I present these assessments by non-Muslim historians and writers.

“Like almost every prophet before him, Mohammad (was) shy of serving as the transmitter of God's work, sensing his own inadequacy,” author James A. Michener wrote in “Islam the Misunderstood Religion” in Readers Digest in 1955.

“When his beloved son Ibrahim died, an eclipse occurred, and rumours of God's personal condolence quickly arose. Whereupon Mohammad is said to have announced, 'An eclipse is a phenomenon of nature. It is foolish to attribute such things to the death or birth of a human being.'”

In his 1992 book “The Hundred: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History,” Michael H. Hart wrote that his choice of Mohammad to top the list “may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level.”

Lamartine, in his history of Turkey published in 1854, wrote, “If greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astounding results are the three criteria of human genius, who would dare to compare any great man in modern history with Mohammad?

“The most famous men create arms, law and empire only. They founded, if anything at all, no more than material powers ... This man moved not only armies, legislations, empires, people and dynasties, but millions of men in the one third of the then-inhabited world.”

Edward Gibbon and Simon Ocklay, in their “History of the Saracen Empire,” published in 1870, stated, “It is not the propagation but the permanency of his religion that deserves our wonder.”

Mahatma Gandhi remarked, in a statement published in “Young India,” in 1924, “I wanted to know the best of the life of one who holds today an undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind. I became more than ever convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity in his own mission, his fearless, and his absolute trust in God.”

The Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him, led a hard life even after gaining power and authority.

“We the community of the Prophets are not inherited,” he said at his death. “Whatever we leave is for charity.”

  • Yes, it's very sad that a man who had to claim power and authority by force is accepted as A Spiritual person at all. This make s him no different than Hitler. Sad sad sad...and yet is a religion of Peace. Double standard all the way.

Khallas!

Tum budha gaye ho isliye badbadane ki aadat nahi jaa rahi hai.
Tumahre paas to Daeef hadith ka jawab nahi Qavi Hadith ka kya jawab do ge.
Khair Allah se dua karte raho ho sakta hai kabhi tumhare bhaag se chheenka toot jaye.
Jab Huzoor Mardhul maut mein mubtala the baar baar takleef kam karne ke liye Qul padh rahe the. Jibreel saheb bhi apni si koshish kar rahe the. Lekin Allah ne Nahi suni. Aur Zahar ki wajah se Huzzor ko shahadat naseeb ho gai.
kya bata sakte ho tumhare sar par kaun se surkhab ke par lage hue the ki Allah ne tumhe Musalman banaya aur mujhe badmazhab. Miyan Musalman ke ghar paida ho gaye. yeh bhi aalah ki naa insaafi hai. Tumhara kya kaarnaama hai. Kyon tum jaanat ke thedaar bane ho.

agar aap chahte hain ki NAI par aman ki fiza barqarar rahe to meri aap se request hai ki aitrazat ko bardash karna seekho.
aap kyon mere moonh lagte ho. Yunus saheb ki hidayat par amal karo ki jahilon ke moonh nahi lagte.
ummeed hai ki aap khyal rakhenge.
    wassalam

  • Chalis chor. Pahle main ne socha tumhe kuchh na kahoon. maga tum sar par chadhe jaa rahe ho. yeh hadith padho aur bukhari aur anas bin malik kaa moonh kala karo agar sharam baaqi hai.

    Narrated Qatada:
Anas bin Malik said, "The Prophet used to visit all his wives in a round, during the day and night and they were eleven in number." I asked Anas, "Had the Prophet the strength for it?" Anas replied, "We used to say that the Prophet was given the strength of thirty (men)." And Sa'id said on the authority of Qatada that Anas had told him about nine wives only (not eleven). (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 5, Number 268)

Aur haan main bhoola nahi hoon ki islam men, mushrik, murtad, aur kafir ki kya saza hai. main thodi der ke liye Mohammed Yunus saheb ke dhoke men aagya thaa ki quran men murtad ki saza maut nahi hai.

Kuchh giarat jaagi ki nahi. agar tum samajhte ho ki dara dhamka kar apni baat manwa loge to kham khali chod do.

bevaaon (viodhvaon) ki tarah kosna band kardo. Agar tumhari duaon men asar hota to Afganistan aur Iraq men itne muslaman marne ke baad america ka wajood khatam ho gaya hota.

  • Tark-heen bhai saheb: Pura comment padh lijiye malum ho jayega, aur Mushrik ki saza men gardan kat lete hain, apne ustad se pooch lo!

  • Rational: Jab jab Musalmanon par napak logon ka attayachar badha hai, wo fana ho gaye hain. Kuchh ko masala laga kar pyramid men rakh diya gaya hai, logon ki ibrat ke liye; aj bhi aisa hoga yak al hoga, ya parson hoga, magar hoga, sun lo, aih mushriko  aur manifiqo, mazhab ko badnam karne walo!

  • Bhai Neyazi Saheb: Aap ka shubh vichar prashansa ke layaq hai, “New Age Islam editor has also given us a right to expression but it does not mean we should indulge in brick-bating and useless arguments” lekin ye sabaq aap Miyan Rational ko ratwa den, jo aaye din hamare Paighambar (SAW) unki begamat aur Sahaba-e-Karam par kaste rahte hain. Hum ne un se do char sawal kar diye to hum mujrim ho gaye. Rahi bat nam ki, to website par Pseudonym ka option hi bund kar dena chahiye.

  • This is very sickening to see repetitions of a senseless       cliche that Islam is always calling for peace .The world of Muslims does not see peace in any corner where muezzins call five times AllahuAkbar, and haiya alal Falah. Just now there is news from Hyderabad that a powerfulexplosion has occurred there and and many innocent lives have been shattered into pieces.
Mali,Kenya,Tunisia,Egypt,Sudan,Iraq,Syria Yaman and the devout Muslim state of Pakistan they are all preaching Islamic peace dripping their brand of Islam in fresh blood of " Kafirs" in their peaceful countries.
What is the validity of the Quranic verses and the Ahadees asking Muslims to be kind, merciful and just even to their enemies or opponents?
All arguments in defence of Islam fall flat before the critics of Islam as a peaceful way of life.Where have Muslims established peace? Do not venture in to isolated examples in the pages of Islamic history to silence those who question legitimately the faith of Muslims all over      the world in which we are living.

  • Dear hats off
This link may be interesting for you on pen and paper denied.

If you want deep knowledge of the Islam, my suggestion is don't rely on one source. Read both Islamic and anti-Islamic sites. Read both shia and sunni sites.
