Western Battle against Hijab to Be Part of War on Islamic Ummah: Al-Qaeda Leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri

Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri

----

On August 7, 2019, Al-Qaeda's Al-Sahab media wing released a video featuring a speech by Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri titled "The Battle of the Hijab." In the video, Al-Zawahiri addresses Muslim women and warns them of the war raging against the Islamic nation that seeks to force them to abandon their religion and hijab ("head covering").[1]

The 12-minute video, which is the fourth episode of his da'wa ("preaching, invitation") series, shows the Al-Qaeda leader in the usual setting, in what appears to be a studio, sitting behind a table on which a Quran is open. Al-Zawahiri begins by addressing "Muslim sisters," particularly those who wear the hijab, saying the current war rages against the Islamic ummah at all levels – militarily, politically, ideologically, culturally, educationally, or economically and others. He says: "The reason behind this war is the danger the Muslim ummah poses to the existence of the modern global system, which is controlled by the leading [international] criminals."

Comparing the Islamic nation with other non-Islamic nations, he says that the nation of Islam is a nation of monotheism, chastity, and jihad for the sake of Allah, while other nations believe in polytheism, lechery, and invasion. He then accuses other nations of "trying by all means to exclude the Islamic Ummah or cause it to deviate from this religion and its shari'a." He says that non-Islamic nations wage wars of ideas and ideologies and other types of wars, and that they want Muslims to abandon their monotheism and become "secularists, irreligious, atheists, Christians, communists, and utilitarians," desert chastity, purity, virtue, and integrity, and indulge in lust and pleasures.

In a stark criticism of the United States and Western countries, Al-Zawahiri says: "Isn't it awfully strange that those who bombarded Japan with atomic bombs, killed five million people in Vietnam, occupied our countries, smashed the Ottoman state, planted Israel in our midst, divided us into more than 50 countries, are stealing our wealth and even the wealth of the whole humanity, are disregarding the destruction of our planet by climate change for their our own interest, are supporting every tyrant and corrupt powerful leader in our countries, and then lecture us about human rights, freedom, civilization, and justice?"

"Is it not strange that the world is controlled by five criminal powers through their international legitimacy, and then they lecture us on democracy and equality?" he asks.

Addressing Muslim women, Al-Zawahiri says that they stand on the frontlines of such wars. He also warns them that non-Islamic nations want Muslim women to abandon their "religion, commitment, chastity, modesty, Hijab, and morals," adding that they also want Muslim women to be atheists, irreligious, and secularists with no morals and principles.

He then praises the role of Muslim women in the Islamic community and their steadfastness, patience, and suffering, especially if their sons or husbands are killed, arrested, or lost. He commends Muslim women and girls who supported their male siblings who participated in jihad, incited them to take part in protests against oppression and tyranny, or suffered due to their imprisonment.

Al-Zawahiri goes on to say: "Oh noble and honorable women, you are one of the first targets in the war against our Islamic Ummah. They will try to reach your faith and conviction using every loophole so that they can penetrate [your faith]."

Confronting cultural, ideological, and media attacks against Muslim women, Al-Zawahiri encourages them to remain patient, steadfast, persevere, and seek Allah's help, urging those who make mistakes or commit sins to immediately repent and seek Allah's forgiveness.

Al-Zawahiri concludes by reciting the following Quranic verse, Quran 33:35: "Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward."

  • When Naseer sb. has nothing valid to say he again goes down to his gutter level and starts using abusive language. He tries to show himself as a defender of the Quran while deriving false meanings from the verses to suit his convenience! So who is a hypocrite and a blatant liar?

    By Ghulam Mohiyuddin - 8/29/2019 1:52:50 PM

  • GM sb's comment is pure unadulterated ad-hominem. He makes accusations without evidence.
My calling him an apostate is not ad-hominem but a statement  of fact. Does he not reject many of the verses of the Quran?
Take this discussion. Have I said anything more than what the Quran says on the subject of hijab/modesty?
GM is the liar and we cannot expect anything better from a hypocritical apostate pretending to be a Muslim. His entire life is one big  lie.

  • Getting anything through  Naseer sb.'s head is impossible. He considers uncritical reading of the Quran to be essential to be a good Muslim but he himself habitually takes the wrong meaning from the verses in order to cover over the actual meaning. When everything else fails he reverts to his usual ad hominem.

  • GM sb is the hypocritical liar claiming to be a Muslim while rejecting many of the verses of the Quran.

When he uses the word "literally" he actually means "seriously". When the Quran explicitly prescribes a head cover for women covering their bosom as well, the question is not whether you take this prescription literally but whether you take it seriously. GM Sb being an apostate, does not want Muslims to take it seriously.

He says, taking the "perfected and complete" religion seriously is being regressive. For a Muslim, any deviation from the Quran is regressing into  pre-Islamic behaviour. It is GM sb who has regressed into Pagan behaviour but he thinks he has progressed. How foolish of him! He is the moron and complete fool who considers himself modern and progressive by regressing into pre-Islamic norms.

    By Naseer Ahmed - 8/28/2019 12:47:58 AM

  • As I have said to Naseer sb. before, only a liar or a moron would call me an apostate. His only purpose seems to be to continue preaching his regressive version of Islam without having to encounter any opposition. As I said before, "People like Naseer sb. and Al-Zawahiri are a bane for our community."

    By Ghulam Mohiyuddin - 8/27/2019 12:43:36 PM

  • GM sb is an apostate of Islam who does not believe in the Quran. For a Muslim no matter where he is and in what age, the Quran is the standard of moral behaviour for all time and in every region. The Quran contains both the perfect and complete religion for all time. Read verse 5:3. If this was not so, Muhammad (pbuh) would not have been the last and the seal of the prophets (33:40).

I wonder why GM sb an apostate, has to meddle with Islam? Why can't he live happily in his apostasy?  Who is stopping his women from  dressing seductively for economic and social gain or for gaining acceptance in Western Society which has become hostile to modestly dressed Muslim women?

    By Naseer Ahmed - 8/27/2019 1:05:59 AM

  • To Nasser Ahmed.
Do not blame Pagan, Muslim men are very good at pre-martial sex.
I have seen so much that Muslims boys when they grow to puberty their first prey are their cousin sisters.
Even Muslim married men also prey unmarried women and grown up girls.
Rubbing Hadees based dysfunctional Muslim society on name of pagan it just self delusional.

  • Naseer sb.'s using the Quran to perpetuate his stagnant and regressive views is deplorable. He shamelessly misrepresents my advocacy of independent thinking as a support of immodesty! He cannot write a single comment without lying! While we are all for modesty, we must remember that what is modest and what is immodest is defined differently in different countries and in different times. People like Naseer sb. and Al-Zawahiri are a bane for our community.

  • Sexual mores in the 21st century are not different from the sexual mores of the 7th century or of an earlier period.

The Quran's prescriptions are with reference to the loose norms of modesty that prevailed in Pagan Arab society. Western Society has regressed to the same loose norms. In the West, they are quite open about using female sexuality for social and economic gain. Pre-marital sex is encouraged as normal and it is abstinence that is looked upon suspiciously as some kind of sexual dysfunction. You will find such loose morals or even worse in Pagan societies in all parts of the world whether Rome, Egypt, Arabia etc.

The argument about Modesty/Immodesty is as old as civilization itself and GM sb is an ignoramus if he thinks that modesty belongs to the 7th century and Immodesty is modern and progressive. He and his society has regressed to Pagan norms and wallow in it and think that is progress and modernity. How shallow!

  • Satan is a friend of those without faith and he first strips his votaries of their sense of shame. There is no faith without modesty or modesty without faith. The two go together.
(2:168) O ye people! Eat of what is on earth, Lawful and good; and do not follow the footsteps of the evil one, for he is to you an avowed enemy.
    (169) For he commands you what is evil and shameful, and that ye should say of Allah that of which ye have no knowledge.
(7:27) O ye Children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you, in the same manner as He got your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their raiment, to expose their shame: for he and his tribe watch you from a position where ye cannot see them: We made the evil ones friends (only) to those without faith.
All those attack the Quranic prescription of  "hijab/modesty", are votaries of Satan.

  • There is no limit to Hats Off's lies.
Lie number 1: I hate the United States.
Lie number 2: I cannot stand it when the Quran is  quoted.
I am a proud member of the American Democratic Party, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center. I  love American standards of journalism and love the New York Times and the Washington Post. I love American literature and am a great admirer of Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner. I have great respect for American Higher education system and sent my children to two of America's best universities (Yale and Columbia). I enjoy the freedom of speech here and I use it liberally to criticize what I do not like about American policies.
I have nothing against the Quran being quoted but I do object to literal interpretations like the ones made by Naseer sb. and you.
All this of course must be beyond your petty and narrow mind which knows nothing other than writing shameful hate mail against Muslims and Islam on an almost daily basis.
    By Ghulam Mohiyuddin - 8/22/2019 11:36:43 PM

  • mr ghulam mohiyuddin has clearly fallen between two stools.
he hates the very land he crawled into. and he is unable to stand it when the Qur'an is quoted verbatim. if it is quoted he just winces and wants to shut his ears.
poor fellow. has everything he needs to be a headless chicken.

    By hats off! - 8/22/2019 6:34:17 PM

  • Naseer sb. believes that anyone who does not concur with his  anachronistic and hideous views is an apostate. He has to use such deplorable labels because he has no reasonable arguments to offer.
He lies for the nth time when he claims that I advocated that  women can  "wear seductive dresses exposing their breasts and other body parts". I told him several times that the verse which permits wife beating in certain circumstances was referring to cases such as wearing revealing dresses and not to adultery, but he has to keep repeating the same lie again and again because he has no solid arguments to make.
Such lying and specious labelling of others in a comment section such as this one is highly to be regretted.

    By Ghulam Mohiyuddin - 8/22/2019 12:52:52 PM

  • MashAllah. New Age Islam is doing a great job by spreading the message of Al Zawahiri
    By Mohammad Arif - 8/22/2019 9:50:33 AM

  • GM sb is wrong as usual.  I do not care whether "Muslims" like him  follow their religion or turn apostates. They can go with the flow and to use GM sb's own words, their women can  "wear seductive dresses exposing their breasts and other body parts".

I have only pointed out what the Quran commands. I have not asked him or others to follow what the Quran commands. They are all free to go their own way since the Quran itself is against any compulsion in religion. The attempt to distort the message of the Quran to suit their thinking however needs to be countered lest it mislead others.
