The four youngsters named as suspects involved in Patna serial blasts, as, the Indian Express newspaper reports, “were part of a group of 12-odd men who started following the Ahle-Hadees, a puritanical strain of Islam, about two years back.” Regardless of whether the probe into the blasts is going to prove it true or not, the future of India and its pluralistic values seems to run the risk of destruction. Today just as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq and Syria and other Muslim countries live in the perilous shadow of Wahhabi radicalization leading to religious intolerance and sectarian violence, the future of India, too, is likely to be jeopardised by Wahhabi fanaticism.
A probe over a series of terror incidents during the past few years points to the bloody future of India. The blasts Indian Mujahideen claimed they were responsible for include 2007 Uttar Pradesh bombings, 2008 Jaipur bombings, 2008 Bangalore serial blasts, 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts, 2008 Delhi bombings, 2010 Pune bombing, 2010 Jama Masjid attack, 2010 Varanasi bombing, 2011 Mumbai serial blasts, 2013 Hyderabad blasts, 2013 Bodh Gaya blasts etc., in addition to the recent Patna serial blasts.
However, the circumstances in India are not yet as turbulent as in several Islamic countries. Despite a list of blasts and attacks in India, it is still known to be a country of peace and tranquillity. But, within the next few years the Wahhabi agenda of conquering every non-Wahhabi state may haul India to the worst phase ever. This is a danger we can no longer ignore.
Unless we Muslims and non-Muslims unite to ascertain what actually Wahhabism is and eliminate its ideological roots, India runs the risk of fatal conspiracies, bloody blasts, deadly suicide attacks, and wanton killing of innocent civilians endangering the peaceful environment in our country.
The root cause of almost all the modern Islamist extremist movements on a large scale is the hardcore Islamic theology propounded by Ibn Abd-al Wahhab during the 18th and 19th centuries in the Arabian Peninsula. Hence the name “Wahhabism” spread. It goes today with various names like Ahle Hadees and Salafiyah with their terror outfits engaged in acts of violence in several countries. They are, for instance, Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan, Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan ul Muslimeen) in Egypt and Indian Mujahedeen in India.
Many of us may have the impression that Wahhabi movement reared its ugly head to target only non-Muslims. But we must not forget that Muslims were the first to be killed by the foremost Wahhabi mobs in Arabian Peninsula. Thus, the people whom Wahhabis consider their enemies include not only Christians, Jews, Hindus and atheists, but also Shiites, Sufis and other moderate strains of mainstream Sunni school.
Over more than two decades, Saudi dynasty has lavishly spent nearly 100 billion US dollars on promoting the virulent Wahhabi version of Islam. They send their petrodollars to Wahhabi seminaries (madrasas), mosques, colleges, and all such centres where they promote pernicious ideologies of Ibn-e-Tamiyyah and Ibn Abdul Wahhab. They have justified acts of terror and violence with their religious verdicts (fatwas), and are destroying Islamic heritage sites, temples and churches under the pretext of eliminating polytheism from the world.
In Islam, it is a vile thing to declare a Muslim apostate. But despite this severe prohibition, Abdul Wahhab went on declaring almost all non-Wahhabi Muslims apostates and polytheists. He called upon his followers to wage war against anyone or any country with viewpoints contrary to theirs.
The question arises as to why Wahhabis have engaged in targeted killings of non-Wahhabi Muslims and non-Muslims in Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Mali, Syria and Turkey and now in India. The government of India is wise enough to understand the agenda of Saudi/Wahhabi/Salafi elements who are being welcomed in the political arena, administrative circles and bureaucracy. However, their agenda can be better understood by the following statements.
Maulana Shaykhu-l-Islam Ahmad Zayni Dahlan, Chief Mufti of Mecca (d.1886) (RA) writes in his essay “Fitna ul Wahhabiyyah” (The menace of Wahhabism):
“What Ibn 'Abdul-Wahhab's father, brother, and Shaykhs speculated about him came true. Ibn Abdul Wahhab created deviant and misleading ways and beliefs and managed to allure some ignorant people to follow him. His deviant and misleading ways and beliefs disagreed with the sayings of the scholars of Islam. His deviant beliefs led him to label the believers as blasphemers! He falsely declared visiting the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and performing the Tawassul by him as polytheism. Additionally, he falsely claimed visiting the graves of other prophets and righteous Muslims (Auliya’) and performing Tawassul by them was shirk (polytheism) as well. He added to this by saying, "To call upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) when performing Tawassul by the Prophet is shirk." He passed the same judgment of shirk on the ones who call upon other prophets and righteous Muslims (Auliya’) in performing Tawassul by them.
"In an effort to give credibility to his innovations Ibn 'Abdul-Wahhab embellished his sayings by quotations which he selected from Islamic sources, i.e., quotations which are used as proofs for many issues but not the issues which Ibn 'Abdul-Wahhab attempting to support. He brought false statements and tried to beautify them for the laymen until they followed him. He wrote treatises for them until they believed that most of the People of Tawhid (believers in oneness of God) were blasphemers.”
Such were the ideologies that divided Muslims to a large extent. Hence the extremism, radicalization and every possible coercive ways began sweeping across the world. It happened so, because Ibn Abdul Wahhab declared all non-Wahhabi Muslims to be polytheists and called upon his followers to wage ‘Jihad’ against non-Muslims and as well as all non-Wahabi Muslims.
We should save India from the Modern Khwarij: Wahhabis
Wahhabi movement has been referred to as the modern Khwarij by the modern Islamic scholars. Just as the Khwarij misinterpreted the Islamic doctrines in the past, similarly these Wahhabis are repeating the same in a bid to further their nefarious ends. The following Hadith refers to the same truth:
"Ibn 'Umar (RA) narrated that the Prophet, (peace be upon him), described the Khwarij as those who took the verses revealed about the blasphemers and attributed them to the believers”
Ibn Umar also narrated that the Prophet said:
"What I fear most for my nation is a man who misinterprets the Qur'an and takes it out of context." (Bukhari Shareef)
The Wahhabis’ pernicious mission of distorting the true spirit of Islam has created much strife among the Muslims and non-Muslims the world over. It has been tarnishing the image of Islam in many parts of the world by legitimizing killing of non-combatant and innocent civilians in an effort to propagate their so-called Shariah. While the mainstream Islamic jurists and experts of Qur'anic exegeses have rejected every kind of injustice to Muslims and non-Muslims in complete conformity with the Qur'anic verse: “If anyone killed any person not in retaliation of murder or (and) to spread mischief in the land; it would be as if he killed all mankind (Surah Maidah: 32)
Besides, there are many verses that clearly forbid fighting unjustly and killing innocent lives, particularly Surah Al-Haj verse 39-40, Surah Baqarah verse 190, Surah Nisa verse 90, Surah Anfal verse: 61 and many more. All these Quranic verses prevent Muslims from killing innocent lives and creating violence in place of peace.
Once, an innocent person was killed without moral justification. When the holy prophet Muhammad pbuh learnt about it, he flew into rage and admonished “O people I am here, still a man is killed and there is no trace of the killer. Allah will not let them go unpunished even if all the creatures of the earth and Heavens agree to kill a man (without prescribed reason) (Tabrai, Op. cit. Tahaffuz Aqaid number p 250)
Concluding Remarks
To sum up, the pernicious ideologies of Wahhabis/Salafis/Modern Khwarij are fomenting tensions and interfaith antagonism at global level. It has now brought dangers looming large to India—particularly to its mainstream Muslim citizens, their holy shrines, schools (madrasas) and mosques, temples, churches and all such centres that Wahhabis believe are the sources of polytheism (Shirk) and thus should be eliminated. It’s time we devise plans to tackle this baffling problem in order to save the entire humanity regardless of religion, nation, country, ethnicity and sect. The first and foremost thing to do is none other than refuting the radical Wahhabi version of Islam. It can be best accomplished by highlighting Islam’s categorical standpoint on religious extremism and its concepts of peace, integration, tolerance, love, harmony and respect for humanity. It’s time all of us Indians, both Muslim and Non-Muslim, come under one umbrella to prevent the seeds of Wahhabism from being planted in our land of peace.
