Calls

----------
“The
Holocaust did not start with the gas chambers.” It started with hate speech. It
started with propaganda. It started with dehumanization of a group of people
and incitement to violence against them. If we are ever to prevent the crime
from occurring, we need to act to address the hate speech and propaganda that,
if not addressed and neutralized, may result in genocide. Recent reports
suggest that such hate speech and propaganda is at increase in India, where
Muslims minorities are the target.
On
January 17, 2022, Indian authorities charged Hindu monk YatiNarsinghanandGiri
with inciting religious violence against Muslims in the Hindu-majority country.
The case refers to an incident in December 2022, when Giri and other leaders
are said to have called on Hindus to arm themselves for “a genocide” against
Muslims during a three-day conference of right-wing supporters and other
religious leaders in Uttarakhand, India.
Reports
suggests that during the conference, Pooja Shakun Pandey, a senior member of
the right-wing Hindu Mahasabha political party, said: “If 100 of us become
soldiers and are prepared to kill 2 million (Muslims), then we will win ...
protect India, and make it a Hindu nation.”
The
charges against Giri follow a petition that sought to prosecute several Hindu
religious leaders and India’s Supreme Court issuing a notice to a northern
Himalayan state, the Uttarakhand state, that it would investigate the case. The
petition was filed by retired Judge Anjana Prakash and stated that these Hindu
religious leaders who spoke at the December 2021 conference “pose a grave
threat not just to the unity and integrity of our country but also endanger the
lives of millions of Muslim citizens.”
The
December 2021 conference where participants called for other Hindus to arm
themselves and kill Muslims in the country, and to establish a purely
Hindu-nation is a warning one cannot ignore. One cannot ignore it as this is
not the first, and will not be the last time we hear of such incitement to
violence against Muslims in India. Indeed, recent years have seen several
incidents that should have raised the alarm, and should have been monitored and
analyzed along the lines of the serious risk of genocide and other atrocity
crimes. These incidents include the government’s systematic discrimination
against the Muslim minority in India, incidents of Hindu mobs attacking Muslims
with many such attacks enjoying impunity that begets further crime against Muslim
minorities, and the widespread promotion of exclusionary ideologies that
portray Muslim minorities as the other.
It
is noteworthy that similarly other religious minorities face a litany of abused
in India, including Christian minorities. Among others, in January 2022, a mob
of 200 Hindu nationalists attacked a house church during its worship service,
injuring the pastor, Pastor HermanthKandapan, and at least two members of the
congregation. As Open Doors further comments, “Hindu extremists believe that all
Indians should be Hindus and that the country should be rid of Christianity and
Islam… They use extensive violence to achieve this goal.”
All
such attacks on religious or belief minorities must be investigated and
prosecuted. However, the calls to be “prepared to kill 2 million (Muslims)”
require further steps in response, including assessment of the serious risk of
genocide and comprehensive steps to neutralize the risk. If we do not act upon
the serious risk of genocide, we are going to see bodies on the street yet
again. This is a warning that we cannot ignore.

Rallies
call for end to genocide of Muslims in Held Kashmir
February
06, 2022
LAHORE
: Rallies and protests marked the Kashmir solidarity day on Saturday as tens of
thousands of slogan chanting marchers took to major roads and commercial
avenues across the country, demanding immediate end to genocide of Kashmiri
Muslims, reversing India’s annexation of disputed valley violating
international laws and norms, and ensuring the right to self-determination to
Kashmiris guaranteed by UN resolutions over seven decades ago.
In
Lahore JI secretary general Amirul Azeem led a rally on Mall Road which was
also addressed by Supreme Court Bar Association President Ahsan Bhoon.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq demanded the government give a roadmap for
the freedom of Occupied Kashmir from Indian yoke and called for holding an OIC
meeting in Islamabad on agenda of Kashmir.
Amirul
Azeem condemned UN and western powers for keeping criminal silence on gross
human rights abuses by Indian army in occupied Kashmir despite that Kashmiris
are demanding their right to self-determination from the UN. Azeem lamented
that Prime Minister Imran Khan was enjoying Olympic games whereas he should
have been in the country on Kashmir Solidarity Day to lead the protests from
the forefront.
He
said PTI government like the previous regimes failed to fight for Kashmir cause
and keeping a criminal inactivity after Modi regime occupied the Muslim
majority state by making constitutional amendments in violations of UN
guarantees. He said the Pakistani nation and the JI were standing side by side
with the Kashmir people in their freedom struggle. He regretted the human
rights abuses range from mass killings, forced disappearances, torture, rape
and sexual abuse to suppression of freedom of speech and bans on religious
gatherings continued in the occupied valley for over two and half years. Entire
occupied Kashmir, he said, had been under a lockdown for nearly two years as
thousands of Kashmiris were detained without charge, including former chief ministers,
political leaders, opposition activists, lawyers, and journalists, he said,
questing the silence of the UN and western powers on rights abuses in the held
area.
He
said since August 2019 when Modi government revoked the special constitutional
status of Jammu and Kashmir and split the province into two separate federally
governed territories, Indian army’s human right abuses had increased manifold
with several hundred people had been killed. He cited world media that Modi
government shifted over 29,000 Kashmiris from Kashmir to different Indian jails
in past 29 months. The funeral prayer of iconic Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Gilani
was not allowed to be offered in open place and his dead body was buried in
midnight under the shadows of guns of Indian army, he said He said the
Pakistani rulers must realise that the Modi government was bent upon changing
the demography of held area. For the purpose, he said, it settled Hindus
population from different parts of India to Kashmir with an objective to change
Muslim majority of the region into minority. If the rulers of Pakistan failed
to check the design of New Delhi, he said, Pakistan will lose its jugular vein
forever. He vowed to continue struggle for Kashmir cause.

Macron’s
government seeks to reshape Islam in France

The
French government on Saturday introduced a new body to reshape Islam in France,
part of President Emmanuel Macron's efforts to rid it of extremism. The Forum
of Islam in France leadership will be made up of clergy and lay people to help
guide the largest Muslim community in western Europe. All of its members will
be hand-picked by the government and women will make up at least a quarter of
them. With France bloodied by past Islamic extremist attacks and having
hundreds of citizens who went to fight with jihadists in Syria in past years,
few disagree that radicalization is a danger. But critics also see the efforts
as a political ploy to lure right-wing voters to Macron's centrist party ahead
of France's April 10 presidential election. Supporters say it will keep the
country — and its 5 million Muslims — safe and ensure that Muslim practices in
France adhere to the country’s cherished value of secularism in public life.
Yet critics, including many Muslims who consider the religion a part of their
French identity, say the government’s latest initiative is another step in
institutionalized discrimination that holds the whole community responsible for
violent attacks of a few and serves as another barrier in their public lives.

Muslim Faith, a group set up in 2003 by former President Nicolas Sarkozy, then
interior minister. The Council served as an interlocutor between the government
and religious leaders. “We must turn the page," Interior Minister Gerald
Darmanin said at the forum's inaugural meeting Saturday at The Economic, Social
and Environmental Council in Paris. “We are restarting relations between the
state and the faith ... (based on) a new form of dialogue that will be more
open, more inclusive and more representative of Islam's diversity in France.”
Islam is the second religion in France, with no single leader and multiple
strains represented, from moderate to Salafist with a rigorous interpretation
of the religion to outright radical upstarts. Macron's project includes
measures like training imams in France instead of bringing them in from Turkey,
Morocco or Algeria — a plan many in the Muslim community approve of. It also
breaks the centralized leadership of clerics. “A single representative of the
Muslim faith, who is a master of all trades, no longer exists,” Darmanin said. Women
and men “who draw their legitimacy from their work and expertise in a field”
will engage in the dialogue with the state, he explained. $2 for 2 months

OFFER Muslims are divided over the project. Some believers visiting the Grand
Mosque of Paris for Friday prayers cautiously welcomed the idea, while others
worry it's going too far in trying to control their faith, or say that the
government has singled out Islamic institutions but would not dare suggest such
changes to Christian ones. Hamoud ben Bouzid, a 51-year-old Parisian, was
optimistic about Macron’s plan and his effort to include different voices from
the Muslim community to show to the wider society its diversity. Members of the
clergy “don’t speak for every Muslim citizen” of France, he said. “We live in a
secular country, so why not expand the forum and give voice to many more
Muslims in France?” ben Bouzid said. “I would like Muslims to be heard as
citizens in this country, not as Muslims. As full citizens.” Muslims in France
have long complained of discrimination in daily life, from being singled out by
police for ID checks to discrimination in job searches. Whenever extremist
violence hits, by foreign-born attackers or by French-born youth, France’s own
Muslims come under suspicion and pressure to denounce violence. Last year the
French parliament approved a law to strengthen oversight of mosques, schools
and sports clubs. The government says it was needed to safeguard France from
radical Islamists and to promote respect for secularism and women’s rights. The
law has been used to shut down multiple mosques and community groups.

President
of Iraqi Sunni Ulama Association: Oppression of Saudi-led coalition against
Yemen, shames every Muslim
February

Coinciding
with the intensification of the aggression of the Arab-Western-Hebrew coalition
in attacking the oppressed people of Yemen, the International Conference
“Investigating the Dimensions of the Aggression against Yemen” is being held

Coinciding
with the intensification of the aggression of the Arab-Western-Hebrew coalition
in attacking the oppressed people of Yemen, the International Conference
“Investigating the Dimensions of the Aggression against Yemen” is being held
today, Saturday, February 5, 2022, by the Arbaeen International Foundation in
cooperation with the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly and coordinated
institutions.
As
the 4th speaker of the conference, the head of the Iraqi Sunni Ulama
Association, said, “Talking about Yemen is reminiscent of seven-year oppression
and suffering of the oppressed people of this country. This nation seeks peace
with its neighbors. But it has been plagued by murder, aggression, and economic
siege. The situation of these people is a great concern of all justice
seekers.”
“When
it comes to Yemen and the hostilities against this country, the oppression of
the arrogant and western countries through the Saudi-led coalition shames all
Muslims. If it were not for the neighboring countries, no one would have dared
to invade the skies and the land of Yemen,” said the head of the Iraqi Ulama
Association, considering the reason for the oppression against the Yemeni
people, their piety.
“In
these seven years, the aggressors have seen the result of this futile war. They
massacre in this holy land on the daily basis. The Yemeni people expect the
Muslim Ummah and the Islamic scholars to pursue this issue more seriously in
the international communities. This war that has done no good to either side,”
he said, assessing the war on Yemen as futile.
“The
enemies are looking for a permanent war so that this region does not have
peace. They do not want peace, tranquility and unity to be established here,”
Sheikh Khaled Mullah stated, considering the perpetrators of the wars in Syria,
Iraq and Yemen as enemies of religion, sects and the unity of Muslims.
“The
UAE and Saudi Arabia are the cause of aggression and insecurity and are the
enemies of Islam,” the head of the Iraqi Ulema Association said, “They are
destroying the wealth, the infrastructure and the whole region.”
“The
only result of the war on Yemen has been the despair of the enemies,” he
stated, “Seeing the steadfastness of the Yemeni people proves to the enemies
that they will not achieve any result. Some countries do not dare to talk about
their murders and aggressions.”
“God
Almighty has said many times not to rely on those who have wronged. The Holy
Prophet (p.b.u.h) also said, ‘I forbade oppression for myself and for you.
Because oppression will have bad effects and consequences for you.’ How are
some Islamic countries silent in the face of the oppression against Yemen?”
Sheikh Khaled Mullah said.
“The
economic sanctions on Iran, the unrest in Iraq and other countries in the
region, due to the opposition of the enemies to the people of the region and
their efforts to form governments in accordance with their wishes,” the head of
the Iraqi Ulama Association stated, “The enemies want the region (Middle East)
to extend a hand of friendship to Israel. It is the duty of all of us to fight
this issue. As the Islamic Republic of Iran has entered the issue of Yemen and
has shown that with all the problems, significant victories can be achieved.”
“The
rulers of some countries in the region must be confronted,” he said, “All
Muslims should say out loud: Enough is enough! Stop oppressing this noble
nation of Yemen! The great Ummah of Islam supports the Yemeni people. We, as
Islamic Ummah scholars, express our solidarity with the people, scholars, and
martyrs of Yemen. These people should know that their victory is near. The
resistance of these people has always been and will be outstanding.”

Osama

Afghanistan: UN report
Geeta
Mohan
February
6, 2022
Terrorist
groups enjoy great freedom in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, a new UN report
says. (Photo: File)
-----------
The
son of slain terrorist Osama bin Laden went to Afghanistan and held meetings
with the Taliban in October 2021, according to a new report by the United
Nations. Further, the report says that there are no signs that the Taliban have
taken steps to limit the activities of foreign terrorists in Afghanistan. In
fact, terrorist groups enjoy greater freedom in Afghanistan today than at any
other time in recent history, the report says.
The
29th report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the
United Nations Security Council was made public this week. The UN prepares
these reports twice a year in an effort to strengthen implementation of
sanctions on militant groups like the Islamic State and al-Qaeda.
The
UN report has addressed the security situation in Afghanistan and neighbouring
countries following the takeover of the nation by militant group Taliban in
August 2021.
As
per the report, the links between the al-Qaeda and Taliban are clear. For
example, Amin Muhammad ul-HaqSaam Khan, who coordinated security for Osama bin
Laden, returned to his home in Afghanistan in late August.
However,
the al-Qaeda has maintained a “strategic silence” on the Taliban, most probably
in an effort not to compromise the Taliban’s aim of gaining international
legitimacy. Hence, after its first statement congratulating the Taliban on its
‘victory’, al-Qaeda has not said much.
The
al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) is led by Osama Mehmood and has
between 200-400 fighters from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and
Pakistan, the report says. The group fought alongside the Taliban in
Afghanistan.
The
UN report estimates that the strength of Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant
Khorasan (ISIL-K) has risen from earlier estimates of 2,200 to nearly 4,000,
following the release of several thousand prisoners.
This
group controls limited territory in eastern Afghanistan and is capable of
conducting high-profile and complex attacks, the report says.
“The
group aims to position itself as the chief rejectionist force in Afghanistan,
with a wider regional agenda threatening neighbouring Central and South Asian
countries,” the report adds.

US
restores sanctions waiver to Iran with nuclear talks in final phase

---------
President
Joe Biden’s administration on Friday restored sanctions waivers to Iran to
allow international nuclear cooperation projects, as indirect American-Iranian
talks on reviving the 2015 international nuclear deal with Tehran enter the
final stretch.
The
waivers had allowed Russian, Chinese and European companies to carry out
non-proliferation work to effectively make it harder for Iranian nuclear sites
to be used for weapons development.
The
waivers were rescinded by the United States in 2019 and 2020 under former
President Donald Trump, who pulled out of the nuclear agreement.
The
State Department has sent a report signed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken
to Congress explaining that restoring the waivers will help the talks in Vienna
on returning to the deal reached between Iran and a group of countries
including China, France, Germany, Russia, Britain and the United States.
“The
waiver with respect to these activities is designed to facilitate discussions
that would help to close a deal on a mutual return to full implementation of
the JCPOA, and lay the groundwork for Iran’s return to performance of its JCPOA
commitments,” according to the report, a copy of which seen by Reuters.
“It
is also designed to serve US non-proliferation and nuclear safety interests and
constrain Iran’s nuclear activities. It is being issued as a matter of policy
discretion with these objectives in mind, and not pursuant to a commitment or
as part of a quid pro quo,” the report said.
The
activities, according to the report, include redesign of Iran’s Arak
heavy-water reactor, the preparation and modification of its Fordow facility
for stable isotope production, operations, training and services related to its
Bushehr nuclear power plant, among several other things.
The
United States and Iran have held eight rounds of indirect talks in Vienna since
April aimed at reinstating the pact that lifted sanctions against Tehran, in
exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.
After
Trump pulled the United States out of the deal in 2018 and reimposed harsh
sanctions, Iran gradually started violating the pact’s nuclear curbs.
The
official added that there has been some progress in narrowing down the list of
differences and that now is the time for political decisions.
“The
waiver was needed to allow for technical discussions that were key to the talks
about a return to the deal,” said a senior State Department official.
The
official added that restoring the waiver was not a signal that the United
States was on the verge of reaching an understanding to return to the deal.
“The
waivers are less a goodwill gesture or a concession to Iran, but rather
technical steps that are probably aimed at ensuring implementation discussions
can go forward in Vienna,” Rome said.

U.S. Muslim organisations call for federal investigation into anti-Muslim
group’s ‘spying’
By
5Pillars
06-02-2022
A
letter signed by more than 80 Muslim organisations has been sent to the U.S.
Department of Justice urging it to launch an investigation into an anti-Muslim
group that was allegedly spying on Muslim groups in America.
The
signatories have urged the Department of Justice to look into the evidence that
the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) has spent over a decade conspiring
to infiltrate and spy upon prominent mosques, Muslim advocacy groups and Muslim
leaders, including a member of Congress, for the benefit of a foreign
government (Israel).
The
letter reads: “This systematic campaign of spying touched nearly every
prominent Muslim organization in the United States, including the Council on
American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA),
the Islamic Networks Group (ING), the Muslim Alliance of North America (MANA),
Muslim American Society (MAS), the Muslim Legal Fund of America (MLFA), Muslim
Advocates, the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), among others, and even an
educational institution, Zaytuna College.”
The
letter was sent by CAIR to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Inspector General
Michael Horowitz, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Kristen Clarke,
and U.S. Department of Justice on January 30th.
The
letter further reads: “ITP’s conspiracy to spy upon American mosques and Muslim
organizations was not surprising. Civil rights advocates have been targeted by
infiltrators and saboteurs for decades. It is long past time for this behaviour
to come to an end.”
According
to the Georgetown University Bridge Initiative, Steve Emerson, the founder of
ITP has a “history of promoting falsified information and conspiracy theories
about Islam and Muslims.”
In
December last year, the Ohio chapter of CAIR announced the termination of its
local director Romin Iqbal, for allegedly sharing confidential information for
several years to a “known anti-Muslim hate group that was supplying information
to Israel.”
After
the termination of Iqbal, a Virginia based Muslim volunteer came forward to
admit that he was spying for the IPT for a monthly remuneration from 2008 to
2012.
Tariq
Nelson of the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Centre in Falls Church, Virginia, said:
“For about four years starting in 2008, I provided information to IPT. Emerson
used SAE Productions, one of his for-profit companies, to pay me about $3,000
per month. Looking back on those times, it’s now clear to me that Emerson’s
main goal in spying on Muslims was to protect the Israeli government;
essentially, to ensure there would never be a ‘Muslim AIPAC’ to challenge U.S.
support for Israel.”
CAIR
also claimed that the IPT’s one goal was “protecting the Israeli government by
undermining Muslims engaged in political and human rights activism.” The group
also released a series of emails that were allegedly exchanged between IPT and
Israeli officials.
An
ITP whistle-blower told CAIR: “I came to realise that IPT’s main concern was
not protecting our nation from legitimate threats, but protecting a foreign
government – Israel – from legitimate criticism. We were essentially being used
as an Israel lobbying organization.”
The
letter from the Muslim organisations further reads: “We are concerned that
IPT’s alleged actions were meant to impact our community’s ability to
religiously assemble and provide ministry; peacefully assemble to politically
organize; petition the government; meet with state and federal elected
officials; mobilize get out the vote campaigns; and defend the civil and
constitutional rights of American Muslims through advocacy and legal
representation.”
Edward
Ahmed Mitchell, National Deputy Director of CAIR, said: “Did they break the
law? That is not for us to determine. That is for the justice department to
determine. The point of all of this was to undermine the Muslim community to
make sure we would never become politically, civically strong enough to change
American foreign policy.”
The
letter urged the Department of Justice to determine whether Steve Emerson or
IPT broke any federal civil rights statutes or criminal laws. The organisations
are asking to specifically determine:
Whether
using paid spies to secretly record the private conversations and activities of
American Muslim civil society organizations, houses of worship and leaders,
including a Muslim member of Congress, without permission over the phone and
in-person violated any federal laws.
Whether
Mr. Emerson transferred funds from the non-profit organisation IPT to the
company SAE Productions for the purpose of paying spies to target the American
Muslim community on behalf of IPT in violation of any federal laws.
Whether
IPT provided any information about American Muslim leaders, civil society
organisations, or houses of worship acquired through spying to the Israeli
government or any other foreign entity in violation of any federal laws.
Whether
IPT spied on the American Muslim community in collaboration with, on behalf of,
or for the purpose of benefitting other anti-Muslim hate groups, members of
Congress, a foreign government or any other entity in violation of federal
laws.
IPT
rejects being characterised as anti-Muslim. It says it is focused on exposing
what it calls “radical Islamist activity on American soil.”

No
Compensation For Demolished Mosques, Churches – Borno Govt
By
Olatunji Omirin
06
Feb 2022
The
Borno State Government has declared that 15 worship centers comprised of 11
mosques and four churches demolished in the state over time would not get any
compensation because they violated land use acts.
Executive
Secretary of Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS), Adam BukarBababe, an
engineer, told newsmen in Maiduguri Saturday.
He
said the decision was based on the resolutions of the Borno State
Implementation Committee on Government White Paper on the Boko Haram Insurgency
in the state.
He
quoted the resolutions as stating, “No residential accommodation should be
converted into a place of worship for the public by adherents of whichever
faith without due compliance with the provision of any extant law.”
Bababe
added, “When we demolished it means they violate the land and use acts, so it
means there is no compensation for that demolition. If government demolishes
any structure, it is because they have a violation.
“I
can tell you that all these worship centres did not follow normal procedure.
So, it doesn’t make sense to any government to demolish and later pay
compensation.”

Political

Tehran,
IRNA - In the past few years, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s opposition forces

In
