UAE Allows Muslim Expats To Sponsor Two Wives At Same Time

11-06-2023
A resident father can sponsor his unmarried daughters,
regardless of their age, and for male sons, he can sponsor them until they
reach the age of 25. The father is allowed to sponsor them after the age of 25
if they continue their studies, the government indicated.
Regarding the sponsorship of new-borns, the UAE
Government affirmed that a residence permit must be obtained for new-borns
within the country within 120 days of their birth date to avoid any fines,
according to the Government.
It noted that a resident can sponsor the children of
his wife from her previous husband after fulfilling the conditions which
include a statement of consent from the father and depositing a guarantee
amount by the sponsor. The residence period in this case is only one year and
can be yearly renewed.
The ICP identified 8 documents required to submit a
request to sponsor the wife and children, which included : Residence visa
application, whether online or through licenced typing offices, a copy of the
passport of the sponsor and the sponsored persons, photographs with a white
background for the wife and children, the original certificate of medical
fitness for the wife and children ( Above 18), a copy of the husband’s
employment contract or the company’s contract if he is an employer, a valid
work permit for the sponsor, a certificate of the husband’s salary, and an
attested lease contract.
The ICP affirmed that family residence permits are
linked to the residence permit of the sponsor (the head of the family or the
guarantor).
In case the sponsor residency is cancelled, the family
members’ residency is cancelled also. They are given a grace period of 6 months
until they get a new residency or leave the country. In case the sponsor fails
to renew or cancel the residency visa of his family members, he will be
obligated to pay the prescribed financial fine.

Borneo Imams Lament Over Irresponsible Plastic Waste
Disposal Affecting The Country’s Image

June 10, 2023
Imams yesterday lamented that some members of the
community were irresponsibly disposing garbage at inappropriate places,
littering and blocking drainages, while affecting the country’s image,
especially in the eyes of tourists.
In yesterday’s Friday sermon, Imams said, being too
dependent on plastic materials has resulted in a negative impact on the
environment, society, economy and health.
Imams added that the environment, a valuable gift from
Allah the Almighty to all His creations, whether humans, animals or plants, is
highly dependent on the earth’s natural resources. “Allah the Almighty forbids
us from damaging the earth. To preserve the beauty and serenity of the
environment, let us play our role by performing our responsibilities in
maintaining cleanliness, and protecting the environment from pollution,” Imams
said.

Mumbai City Mosque Holds Aptitude Tests To Aid
Students' Career Selection

Representational photo

Mohammed Wajihuddin
Jun 11, 2023
Last week, dozens of young boys and girls, accompanied
by their parents, crammed the Konkani Community Hall in Central Mumbai. Drowned
in a festive look, the venue saw over 200 enthusiastic students, mostly those
who cleared SSC and HSC exams this year, taking aptitude tests. Subsequently
they were led to counters where professional career counselors guided them to
choose career paths based on their performance in the test. So, what is unique
about it?
The surprise element is the fact that a mosque hosted
the aptitude tests. The iconic Juma Masjid of Bombay's Family First Guidance
Centre has initiated this exercise which is bound to benefit young students who
are confused about their career choice. "Normally mosques hold prayers
five times a day and the Friday weekly sermons. We have gone a step ahead and
introduced aptitude tests for students under our Family First Guidance Centre
being run from the mosque's premises. The overwhelming response has encouraged
us," said Shoeb Khatib, Chairman of the Juma Masjid of Bombay Trust which
manages the massive mosque, the badaqabrastan at Marine Lines besides a few
more establishments in the city.
Called the Holland SDS test, each student's
personality was evaluated based on six key characteristics: realistic,
investigative, artistic, social, enterprising and conventional. "We call
it RIASEC test and upon completion of the test, it generates a three-digit
unique interest code which explains the candidate's personal interests. Subsequently,
the careers deemed most suitable for the candidate is suggested," said
Juveriya Syed, an M A in Psychology (life span counselling) who designed the
camp.
Mohammed Zahid who has just cleared the SSC exam was
among those who took the test. "I want to be a CA, but did not know if I
have the required intelligence and ability. Having given this test, I know I
can realise my dream," observed Zahid.
Interestingly, leading the initiative is a senior
cleric Mufti Ashfaq Kazi whose basic job is to give fatwas or opinions on
different issues according to Shariah laws. "This camp for aptitude tests
has also helped break the notion that a cleric cannot think beyond madrassa
education. Almost all the boys and girls participating in the event are from
secular education stream and we are trying to empower them with informed career
decisions," said Kazi.
The initiative understandably is getting wide
appreciation. "This is a welcome move. It is good that our students are
being helped to know which career they can excel in. Wrong career choice
imposed on a student proves disastrous as we have seen many students quitting
their course midway because they were not interested in it in the first
place," said businessman and philanthropist Sabir Nirban. He added that more
mosques should step in to conduct such tests.
What added value to the event were the motivational
speeches by professional counselors and teachers like Rehan Ansari, Kazim
Malik, Advocate Nadeem Siddiqui and Ehtesham Shaikh. "Most of us
underestimate our potentials. Try to understand that you have limitless
opportunities in the globalized world and your dream must be back by hard work
to excel in your chosen field," enthused Ansari who teaches at some of the
city's elite business schools. It was with this dream that Madanpura resident
Azim Khan whose Television repairing shop shuttered during Covid and
accompanied his son Owais to the event. "I am jobless but I want my son to
crack NEET-UG exam and become a good doctor. I am here to back him and see how
his aptitude test goes," said Khan. If his son succeeds, credit will also
go to the Juma Masjid.

Female Teacher In Alberta, Canada Rips Muslim Students For Skipping Out On Gay Pride Activities

Representational photo
-----
JUNE 10, 2023
A female teacher in Alberta, Canada recently was
recorded blasting Muslim students in her class for skipping school during
Pride-themed events — telling them that if they continued, they “can’t be
Canadian” and “don’t belong” in the country.
The unnamed teacher from Londonderry School attempted
to guilt-trip the students by noting their classmates showed up for them during
Ramadan: “They’re showing respect to the class — for your religion.”
“It goes two ways,” the teacher continued. “If you
want to be respected for who you are, if you don’t want to suffer prejudice for
your religion, your color of skin or whatever, then you better give it back to
people who are different from you. That’s how it works. It’s an exchange.”
The teacher noted that other countries execute
homosexuals, and that if anyone in the class shared that belief they should
leave the country.
“That’s not what Canada believes,” she said. “We
believe in freedom. We believe that people can marry whomever they want. That
is in the law — and if you don’t think that should be the law, then you can’t
be Canadian.”

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Sister,
Brother-In-Law Booked In Layyah Over ‘Botched’ Land Deal

June 11, 2023
MUZAFFARGARH: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE)
registered a case against a sister and brother-in-law of former prime minister
and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan for buying 5,261 kanals of
expensive land in the Layyah district at cheap rates through fraud.
The ACE Layyah circle prepared a report before
registering the case against Dr Uzma Khan, the sister of Imran Khan, and her
husband Ahad Majeed.
According to the first information report (FIR), Dr
Uzma Khan had bought 5,261 kanals in the NawanKot area of Layyah at a cost of
Rs130m through fraud and political pressure while the land’s actual price was
Rs6 billion.
Dr Uzma Khan shared registration of the land with her
husband, Ahad Majeed. The land was bought near the Greater Thal Canal project.
The FIR said the local people did not know about the
project while the information was available with Dr Uzma Khan and she wanted to
take undue benefit from the deal.
The ACE official disclosed that 500 kanals were
snatched from the local people and they were forced by the district
administration to leave the land, which was illegal.
Ghulam Asghar Patwari did fake mutations of 2,000
kanals.
The ACE registered the case against Dr Uzma Khan, Ahad
Majeed, and patwari Ghulam Asghar.

Rahul Gandhi is like Bin Laden, says Bihar BJP chief
Pranav Chaudhary
June 10, 2023
Bihar BJP chief Samrat Chaudhary once again made a
direct personal attack on senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Bihar Chief
Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday while speaking in the Araria district.
Addressing a rally, part of the saffron party’s
month-long mass contact programme, the leader compared Rahul Gandhi to slain Al
Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, stating that by growing a beard, one cannot become
the prime minister of a country.
“I still consider him (read Rahul Gandhi) a
50-year-old child in politics. We cannot do anything if a 50-yearold is
ignorant about politics,” he said.
What’s more intriguing is that Chaudhary said his (Rahul’s)
sister (Priyanka Gandhi) is not ready to contest election which, he said, has
become a matter of debate between the brother and the sister.

After Purola, Tension Over ‘Love Jihad’ Spreads To
GangotriTown
Jun 11, 2023
UTTARKASHI: Communal tension in Uttarkashi’sPurola
town, following the arrest of two men, including one from the minority
community, for allegedly trying to “abduct” a minor girl of a different faith
on May 26, has now spread to Gangotri town in the district. Shops remained
closed on Saturday in Gangotri as a mark of protest against the increasing
number of alleged incidents of “love jihad” across the state.
Local traders participating in the protest voiced
concerns about the “influx of unverified outsiders engaging in small roadside
businesses” which they alleged is affecting “the tranquility and law and order
of Gangotri, which is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage towns”. They called for
immediate action in this regard by the administration. Meanwhile, amid the
escalating tension, a 32-year-old shopkeeper from the minority community
prepared to leave Purola after his landlord asked him to vacate the rented
shop.
Sharing his distress, the shopkeeper, who had been
residing in Purola for the past three decades and runs a garment business,
said, “We are waiting for transport trucks to arrive and will leave the town in
a couple of days. My father came to Purola 30 years ago and started a garment
business. However, due to the communal tension, we are now forced to vacate the
shop, also leaving behind our own house that was built by my father years ago.”

Reservation for Muslims is against the Constitution,

'Unabomber' Ted Kaczynski, who terrorised US for
nearly 20 years, found dead in prison
Jun 11, 2023
Ted Kaczynski, who came to be known as the “Unabomber”
after a campaign of sporadic, anonymous bombings in the US from 1978 to 1995,
died in prison on Saturday, authorities said.
Kaczynski, 81, whose attacks killed three people and
injured two dozen, was found unresponsive at 12.25am at a federal prison
medical centre in Butner, North Carolina, the Federal Bureau of Prisons said.
The reclusive Harvard-educated mathematician, whose
targets ranged from academics to random civilians, had a self-professed goal of
halting the advance of modern technology and society, mounting his campaign of
violence from a shack in rural Montana.
It was only after Kaczynski's capture and the
revelation of his identity that the FBI uncovered his previous life – one where
he scored 167 on an IQ test and entered university at just 16.

As Canada PM visits Kyiv, Zelenskyy says
counteroffensive ‘taking place’
Jun 11, 2023
ZAPORIZHZHIA: In the south, Ukrainian soldiers are
fighting on an unforgiving landscape, table-flat farmland with little cover for
troops trying to advance. And 60 miles away, they are attacking across the
plains, pushing toward a strategic railway junction. Farther east, they are
targeting Russian positions on the hills outside Bakhmut, a city in ruins that
fell to Russian forces last month after the longest and bloodiest battle of the
war.
In fierce battles along the front line this past week,
Ukraine’s counteroffensive is taking shape, presenting a major pivot in the
war. With each clash, Ukraine is trying to show that it can attack anywhere,
while trying to make Russia defend everywhere.
After days of silence on the extent of the fighting,
President VolodymyrZelenskyy offered the strongest confirmation yet on Saturday
that the long-awaited counteroffensive had begun. “Counteroffensive and
defensive actions are being taken in Ukraine,” he said in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The confirmation came ata joint press conference with
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, who made his second unannounced visit to Kyiv since
full-scale war broke out in February last year.

NA committee on references against judges meets on

June 11, 2023
ISLAMABAD: The first formal meeting of the National
Assembly’s special committee to “prepare and forward” references against
Supreme Court judges to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) over their alleged
misconduct will be held at Parliament House on Tuesday (June 13).
According to the National Assembly Secretariat, the
five-member committee would discuss the possibilities of filing references
under Article 209 of the Constitution “on the ground of misconduct as discussed
in the National Assembly and on such other grounds which are available against
any judge or judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.”
Overall, this will be the second meeting of the

elected Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha of the ruling PML-N as the committee’s chairman.
The National Assembly had on May 15 approved the
formation of the special house committee to “prepare and forward” references

Imran Khan has filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking
the shifting of at least four courts from Sector F-8 Markaz to the

Mohammad Asghar
June 11, 2023
RAWALPINDI: Due to bad weather, a flight of the
‘IndiGo’ airlines en route to Ahmedabad from Amritsar strayed into Pakistan
near Lahore and went up to Gujranwala before heading back to Indian airspace at
about 8pm on Saturday.
According to flight radar, the Indian plane with a
ground speed of 454 knots entered north of Lahore at about 7:30pm and returned
to India at 8:01pm. A senior official of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
said that it was not unusual as it was “internationally allowed” in bad weather
conditions.
Meanwhile, several flights were diverted and delayed
due to poor visibility at airports in light of an alert issued by the CAA. The
CAA spokesman said that it had extended the weather warning for Lahore till
11:30pm on Saturday as the visibility at the Allama Iqbal International Airport
was 5,000 metres.

US warned Iran against higher enrichment during
indirect Oman talks in May — report
By TOI STAFF
10 June 2023
Officials from the United States and Iran held
indirect talks in Oman last month, with officials from Muscat acting as
intermediaries, according to a Friday report.
Three sources familiar with the matter told Axios that
US officials made clear in messages passed to Iran that there will be a severe
response if Tehran reaches the 90 percent uranium enrichment levels required
for use in a nuclear weapon — a short technical step from their current level.
The most recent estimate by the UN’s nuclear watchdog is that Iran has 114.1
kilograms (251 pounds) of uranium enriched up to 60% purity, a short technical
step from weapons-grade.
The Axios report labeled the discussions “proximity
talks” focused on deterrence, and said that the White House’s Middle East
coordinator Brett McGurk had traveled to Oman on May 8 to discuss potential
moves by the US toward Iran regarding its contentious nuclear program.
The report said Iran’s top nuclear negotiator Ali
BagheriKan was in Oman at the same time as part of a delegation, but did not
meet directly with the Americans.
“That includes ensuring Iran never acquires a nuclear
weapon so of course, we are watching closely Iran’s enrichment activities,” the
spokesperson said.

Iran denies report of nearing interim nuke deal with
US
By : Sentinel Digital Desk
11 June 2023
TEHRAN: Iran has denied a media claim of it
"nearing an interim nuclear deal" with the US, saying such a deal
neither exists nor is on the agenda. Iran's permanent mission to the United
Nations on Thursday responded in a statement to a report by the London-based
online news outlet Middle East Eye that claimed Tehran and Washington were
close to achieving an interim deal, under which Tehran would curb its nuclear
programme in return for sanctions relief, Xinhua news agency reported, citing
the semi-official Tasnim news agency. Also Read - Blast in Somalia kills 25
Kids, several others injured "An interim deal for replacing the Joint
Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) neither exists nor is on the agenda,"
said the Iranian mission. A spokesperson for the White House National Security
Council also denied the report, saying it is "false and misleading".
Iran signed the JCPOA with world powers in July 2015, agreeing to put some
curbs on its nuclear programme in return for the removal of the sanctions on
the country. The US, however, pulled out of the deal in May 2018 and reimposed
its sanctions on Tehran.

Russia’s Orthodox and Muslims Clash on Origins and
thus the Future of Russian State
Paul Goble
11-06-2023
Staunton, June 6 – Two conferences in the last week,
one organized by Metropolitan Tikhon, Vladimir Putin’s favourite priest, and a
second arranged by the Moscow Islamic Institute, offered radically different
versions of the origin of the Russian state and empire, Andrey Melnikov of
NG-Religii says.
The first stressed the importance of the conception of
Moscow as the third Rome in the development of the Russian state, although
there were serious disagreements as to whether that was a burden or a the
guiding principle of how Russian rulers have acted over the last 500 years
(ng.ru/ng_religii/2023-06-06/9_551_depoliticization.html).
Those who suggested that the Third Rome was a burden,
including Tikhon, argued that the state and church have an obligation to
increase the involvement of Russians in church life rather than engage in
imperial actions. But those who viewed it as a guiding principle stressed exactly
the opposite, and despite Tikhon’s influence, they appeared to be in the
majority.

Boris Johnson's shock exit reverberates through
British ruling party
By Andy Bruce
June 10, 2023
LONDON, June 10 (Reuters) - Old rifts resurfaced in
Britain's ruling Conservative Party on Saturday following former Prime Minister
Boris Johnson's abrupt resignation from parliament, while the opposition Labour
Party sensed opportunity ahead of a general election next year.
Johnson quit late on Friday in protest against an
investigation by lawmakers into his conduct as prime minister during the height
of the COVID-19 pandemic, when lockdown-breaking parties were held in Downing
Street.
In his resignation statement, Johnson railed against
the inquiry that examined whether he misled the House of Commons about the
gatherings, saying it had not found "a shred of evidence" against
him. He also took aim at current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The Journey of Islamic Banking in Bangladesh
MdAsaduz Zaman
Jun 11, 2023
The journey of Islamic banking began with the goal of
conducting banking business in Muslim countries around the world in accordance
with Islamic Shariah.
The initial effort to establish an Islamic financial institution
took place in Pakistan in the late 1950s with the establishment of a local
Islamic bank in a rural area. However, the initiative did not yield fruitful
results.
Later, the second experiment with Islamic banking was
conducted in Egypt between 1963 and 1967 through the establishment of the
MitGhamr Savings Bank in a rural area of the Nile Delta. The bank's operations
were based on the Islamic principles of not charging interest to depositors or
borrowers.
