Another

make rotis and parathas. Things she discovered after marrying a Pakistani man.
Who,
then, is this fortunate man? Muhammad Ali is the man’s name.
How

Pakistani YouTuber Basit Ali. Mohammed

community, when I met her, she loved my way of respecting women and decided to
marry me.”
He
talked about how his wife was an atheist before they were married when
discussing his decision to convert to Islam.
“She
embraced Islam because she wasn’t following any religion and refuted pork and
alcohol culture there as well. So, it wasn’t difficult for her to adjust in
Pakistan.”

on Gaza Strip

August 2022
UAE
princess Hend bint Faisal Al-Qasimi is continuously raising her voice against
Israel bombing Palestinian territory and killing civilians including babies.
In
a recent tweet, she compared the deaths of Muslims in various wars to the
holocaust.
Claiming
that 12.5 million Muslims died in wars in the past 25 years, she wrote, “You
never hear a Muslim writing books, movies, starts a law that if you don’t
sympathize with our plight you are less of a human.
We
forgive & move on.”
In
another tweet, she blamed the media for justifying the killing of babies in the
Gaza strip. She wrote, “The media that is controlled by you know who, wants you
to NOT EVEN FEEL AN OUNCE OF SYMPATHY FOR THE DEAD BABIES, by claiming their
terrorist Daddies DELIBERATELY USED them as HUMAN SHIELDS”.
Comparing
the killings of Palestinians in the Gaza strip, she wrote, “We’ve all cried at
what the Nazis have done to the Jews in Germany. Yet, it’s funny how the very same
Jewish Zionists don’t cry at the EXACT SAME thing that they are doing to the
Palestinians. Take their homes if they don’t leave, terrorize them & bomb
it”.
The
UAE princes slammed the US for terming the killings as ‘self defense’ and
wrote, “Israel frames Gaza for ‘preparing’ for an Islamic Jihad. So, it sees
bombing and killing civilians and babies as perfectly understandable and
justified.
The
USA is calling this ‘self defense’.”
Ceasefire
between Israel, Palestinian militants comes into force
Meanwhile,
the ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants has come into force. The
ceasefire is brokered by Egypt.
The
ceasefire, which both sides had confirmed, came into force at 11:30 p.m. on
Sunday.
On
Monday, United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency closed-door
meeting to discuss the latest escalation. Among the nations that initiated the
meeting is UAE, a UNSC member.

Tanzanian
women small business entrepreneurs face challenges
Kizito
Makoye
06.08.2022
DAR
ES SALAAM, Tanzania
For
Zuwena Seif, transforming her shabby hair salon in the Tanzanian port city of
Dar es Salaam into a larger main street enterprise was a challenging task.
“Without
enough capital, this was my biggest challenge,” she told Anadolu Agency.
The
44-year-old mother of four repeatedly applied for a bank loan, but her
applications were rejected as she lacked a fixed asset to serve as collateral.
Sub-Saharan
Africa has one of the highest rates of entrepreneurship in the world, with
approximately 42% of the non-agricultural labor force classified as
self-employed or employers.
However,
analysts say most entrepreneurs are unable to expand their businesses beyond
small-scale subsistence operations, impeding their contribution to poverty
reduction and shared prosperity.
Although
Seif had already found a niche for her salon that helped her attract a loyal
clientele, the lack of a strong business plan and preparation made her business
venture less profitable.
“I
couldn’t employ skilled hairdressers because I couldn't afford to pay them on a
regular basis,” she explained.
After
a long battle for a loan, Seif eventually gave up and shut the salon down.
She
has since switched over to the consumer goods business, which she says is more
profitable.
She
is among many women entrepreneurs who are struggling to eke out a living in a
low-profit sector.
While
owning a business in the lucrative beauty industry is a pretty safe bet, many
women entrepreneurs are unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
“Running
a hair salon pays well depending on the location and the facilities you have to
attract customers,” Seif said.
Hurdles
to growth
Like
elsewhere in Africa, Tanzania’s entrepreneurs often face barriers to accessing
desperately needed funds or feeling respected as business owners with a strong
support system.
“Working
as an entrepreneur isn’t easy. Women particularly face many challenges,
including cashflow problems and poor marketing skills,” said Jane Magigita,
founder and executive director of Equality for Growth, a local charity that
supports women in the informal sector.
Most
women entrepreneurs face a serious lack of business knowledge, she told Anadolu
Agency, adding that “starting your own business can be a hard process that
requires patience and know-how.”
Apart
from the typical entrepreneurial pitfalls, women who spoke with Anadolu Agency
mentioned several challenges, including getting funding and the fear of
failure.
Magdalena
Kimboi, a market trader in the city, urged Tanzania’s government to create a
conducive environment for small-scale traders. “My business can only grow if I
get support from the government. They must empower women to be more
independent,” she told Anadolu Agency.
Supplementing
family income
In
the smoldering heat of Tegeta, a bustling neighborhood in Dar es Salaam, Elizabeth
Kasala is busy cooking maize meals, popularly known as ugali, plus fish stew
and vegetables.
“Doing
something is better than sitting idle because I get something to feed my
children,” she told Anadolu Agency.
Kasala,
engulfed in smoke, grabs a handful of maize flour from a bag and sprinkles it
in boiling water to make a thick consistency. “I cook ugali because the flour
is cheap. If I had more money, I would cook rice and meat too,” she said.
Kasala
works seven hours a day and earns about 35,000 Tanzanian shillings (roughly
$15) to supplement her family's income.
"When
I told my husband about starting this business, he was skeptical, but now he’s
very happy," she said.
However,
unlike other licensed traders who display their wares in wooden stalls, Kasala
cooks in the open air and says she is often harassed by the city municipality.
"We
always play hide-and-seek with the city administration, who frequently seize
our utensils," she complained.

Women
Who Golf founder wants more females to play in UAE
August
06, 2022
Nick
Tarratt
Gulf
News met up with Tuscany Williams at MyGolf Dubai, the founder of the Facebook
community Women Who Golf on a visit through Dubai.
Gulf
News: Tuscany, tell our readers about yourself, women’s golf and your new
movement, Women Who Golf?
Tuscany:
Golf for me is a social pursuit, it’s about fun, friends and memories. When I
was a junior golfer in Australia, the only option was to play with much older
women. I loved the game my father had introduced me to, but there weren’t any
girls my age to play with. I craved the community I saw the boys all enjoy.
Instead. I felt like a ‘second-class’ citizen, an afterthought without anything
catering to my desires as a woman. Unfortunately, this lack of social opportunity
vastly reduced the amount of golf I played and essentially drove me out of the
sport.
When
I started Women Who Golf, I quickly discovered thousands of other women felt as
I did. We all craved community. This is the primary reason the Facebook group
took off as it did.
Gulf
News: Tell us more about Women Who Golf?
Tuscany:
Women Who Golf is a community for women to find friends, and share their
experiences in a positive and supportive forum. Our members are super active,
and form relationships with likeminded people around the globe.
Since
setting it up, we have grown to over 51,000 members on our Facebook group, with
roughly 1,000 new members joining week.
More
satisfyingly, I’ve been inundated with messages telling me the group ‘is the
first thing they check when they wake up and the last thing when they go to
bed.’
Gulf
News: Tell us why you are in Dubai?
Tuscany:
I’m visiting Dubai because, in my opinion, it’s among the most exciting,
innovative cities in the world. We are seeking partnerships with those
innovators who actively looking to get more women into golf.
Gulf
News: What are you hoping to achieve with Women Who Golf?
Tuscany:
I am sharing its success story so far, with like-minded people in the industry,
to see ways we can collectively develop the project for everyone’s benefit: the
women golfer as well as see if we can help the golf industry adapt to what we
are looking for.
We
are launching the ‘WWG friend finder’, an on-line directory to find playing
partners in any city in the world.
Also,
we are creating a global directory of Women Who Golf Approved Courses. To be
featured, a course must prove they support women’s golf and create a fantastic
experience for our members. This project creates its own momentum; the more
clubs that create female-specific experiences, the more females they attract,
so the cycle grows like a snowball of positivity.
Gulf
News: When are you next in Dubai, and what is your next immediate step for
Women Who Golf?
Tuscany:
We return in October and are excited to bring the first Women Who Golf meet-up
and tournament week to the region from around the world. We are in discussions
with several club executives and tourism operators who share our passion for
developing women’s golf. There’s lots of positive momentum we are keen to seize
on.
